CEE 6343 Water Supply and

Sanitary Engineering

RATIONALE

Water supply and sanitation is important for communities

as it provides good health and ensures economic benefits.
Lack of it results in deterioration of human health and
death.
Water provision without a sanitary component has also
shown to be a recipe for enteric disease outbreaks.
Hence, the two should always go hand-in-hand if the
intended purpose of water supply and sanitation provision
is to achieve its intended purpose.

AIM
This module aims at equipping students with general
information on aspects of Water Supply and
Sanitation and also to equip them with tools for
solving related problems.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
i.
Identify and characterize water sources;
ii. Assess water demand for different uses and
wastewater generation rates;
iii. Design water supply and wastewater treatment
systems;
iv. Interpret water and wastewater quality
parameters and standards (Physical, Chemical and
biological);
