MAGNA CARTA
The magna carta is one of the most important documents in history. It
guaranteed the peoples certain rights 1215.
The magna carta was also to guarantee land owners and English gentry that
they would not be unfairly taxed
It protected basic human rights including freedom from excessive government
control and property

PARLIAMENT CREATED
The Parliament was the legislative body in England. Their job was to collect
the common peoples' taxes.
Parliament is the very center of any form of democracy. In it, the interests of
the greatest possible number of citizens should be represented. They all can
vote for individuals who represent them in Parliament

THE PETITION OF RIGHTS


The Petition of Right of 1628 is one of England's most famous
Constitutional documents.
It was written by Parliament as an objection to an overreach of authority by
King Charles I.
During his reign, English citizens saw this overreach of authority as a major
infringement on their civil rights.

THE HABEAS CORPUS ACT


The Habeas Corpus Act of 1679, was passed during the reign of the restored
monarchy of Charles II after the English Civil War.
It strengthened the ancient and powerful written which had been a feature of
English Common Law since before Magna Carta.
Habeas Corpus is Latin for you may have the body

THE GLORIOUS REVOLUTION


Glorious Revolution, also called bloodless revolution in English history 16881689
Resulted of the death of king James II and his daughter Mary II with her
husband William III took the throne
Some historians see the Glorious Revolution as a Whig victory that
established limited monarchy in England;

THE TOLERATION ACT


The Toleration Act demonstrated that the idea of a comprehensive church
of England had been abandoned and that hope lay only in toleration of
division.
It allowed Nonconformists their own places of worship
own teachers and preachers, subject to acceptance of certain oaths of
allegiance

THE ENGLISH BILL OF RIGHTS


Act that the Parliament of England passed on December 16, 1689.
The Bill creates separation of powers, limits the powers of the king and
queen, enhances the democratic election
The 1689 English Bill of Rights had a massive influence on the colonies in
North America and the Constitution of the United States.
