Community and Service Reflection

As one of the requirements of the IB program, you are expected to reflect upon your experience of providing service
within the community. Please use the following questions for your reflection and demonstrate that you are able to
make a link between the service you provided and your ongoing development as a learner and a global citizen.
A sense of belonging, a sense of purpose
Community and service begins in the classroom and extends beyond it,
giving you the chance to participate actively in the communities in which
you live.

You have the opportunity to provide service for others and for your
environments, and in doing so develop into a responsible citizen.

1. What does it mean to be in service to others?

2. What qualities or characteristics are necessary for serving others? [internal and
external characteristics] Why would these characteristics be important to service?

3.

Over the first half of the year, how did you show yourself to be a responsible citizen
by demonstrating service in action? Describe the actions you engaged in and where
these actions took place. Be specific and detailed.

4.

What did you learn from the experience of engaging in service to others? [Consider
the people involved, the outcome(s) of such service, any change(s) that came because
of your involvement in service to the community]

5. Reflect upon how we live in relation to each other. How did the characteristics or
qualities that you demonstrated in serving others, contribute to enriching the
people, community, and environment?

6. Did this experience affirm or confirm for you, some talents, goals, desires that you
have for future opportunities of providing service in your community? How so?

7. What would you like to become involved in next year, as you continue to
demonstrate an attitude of contributing to the community? Why would you choose
this?

8. What IB Learner Profiles did you exhibit, during the course of your community and
service component? [Name and explain by giving a concrete example to illustrate
how each IB Learner Profile was evident].

9. How is Community and Service important to our identity as Christians. How can
this component of the IB program relate to our understanding of the Gospel
message?
