REFLECTION REPORT

Even before Islam, social labour and community service have been fundamental ideals
in all communities. I consider being involved in the community to be an essential part of who
I am. This is because for me, being "involved" in the community has always been a necessary
component of being a full human being and a contributing member of society. I believe that
connecting with others around us in a form that has influence, impact, and serves others reflects
the truth that, as people, we are all interdependent. Additionally, community engagement is
vital as part of the Sejahtera academic framework. I have to be in a state of balance inside out
within the physical and the spiritual, balanced in what I can achieve, in terms of life between
my quest for something and between contentment with what I receive. Like so, this is what will
give me contentment, protect me from stressful condition since I have Sejahtera, the spiritual
domain that I can fall to whenever I faced with difficulties in the physical domain. I think that
community engagement working with the community is a platform that provides
transformative qualities means it can not only change the community but also transform
ourselves through experience. By participating in community service, I can gain real-world
experience and practice important habits like problem-solving, and time-management.
Volunteering offers me as a student the opportunity to apply classroom learning to practical
scenarios that have real implications. This engagement was complemented by my involvement
in different committees and leadership roles during this semester. These experiences were an
essential element of my journey of ‘becoming’ that led me to my chosen career paths which is
social work.

Besides that, not only can I share with pain and pleasure of circle community but I able
to develop and shift the rural community from being in a group of B40 who are poor. With
thinking and planned project between my group, we can evolve these people in
entrepreneurship, agriculture, business class and any project that in the end give the self-
independence, eco-independent to these people. Allah has mentioned in Quran that we have
presented to getting involved in social work, and entrusted to be the Khalifah. Generally, the
responsibility of Khalifah is we have to develop surroundings and not destroy them. For
instance, calling others to worship Allah or da’wah, showing a good example, and spreading
good character to the community. One of the greatest good deeds that we can do is to give give
charity for the sake of Allah to help other community (community service) as every act of
community service produces a ripple effect, which eventually provides some benefit to the
entire society and community. It is in the light of Quranic observations from Surah Al-Baqarah,
verse 177, I can understand that, even when one possesses strong belief in five pillars and
consistently establishes prayer, there are additional significant virtues, which a Muslim is
expected to carry out. Giving to the poor and orphans out of one's wealth is one of these
additional qualities. In other words, if we want to contribute meaningfully to social work and
community service, we have to give up "a little bit" of what we love. Money, food, clothing,
homes, and other things that can be physically measured are examples of wealth. We can also
provide others with incalculable services or help, such as education, advice, counselling, role
modelling, and other things. Therefore, we will assist to upholding social respect and
community norms when we retain faithfulness, practise timeliness, and exercise patience.

There are numerous methods to achieve in social work and community service. One of it
is to do community profiling that may be a useful way of developing an understanding of
people. It sets the framework for evaluating possible effects, aids in creating a plan for
community participation, forges alliances with, and secures agreement from, those who will be
involved in the project. It is also employed to pinpoint a community's needs, issues, and
strengths. A thorough explanation of the needs, the resources available to satisfy those needs,
and how doing so will enhance the community's health and welfare. Rural development,
economic empowerment, environmental education, sustainable cities, transformative
education, and capacity building are all included in the project's scope. The situational Analysis
(CA) of the community in the questionnaire may identify the state of environmental
sustainability, social sustainability and economic sustainability of the community, to prioritize
issues and challenges faced by the community, and possible solutions. Broadly speaking,
community profiling activities may be grouped into observation, survey, and interview. First
techniques include observation by spending time in the targeted area, establishing, rapport with
community members, and participating in community life to familiarize with the setting. The
second is doing a survey or collecting data using a questionnaire along with written descriptions
of community members, activities, services, resources, and issues. Third, interview by
speaking with the targeted participant who will be directly affected by the project or indirectly
affected such as local officials.

In a nutshell, though my experience with community engagement was a challenging

transition as a first-year student, I also achieved a number of milestones and consistently
applied my learning goals to my service. And by doing so, I was able to live up to my personal
ideals, which led to a memorable and motivating experience. My decision to interact with the
community this semester has been influenced by ideals that hold value to me, such as being of
service, solidarity, compassion, and trying to make a dent in the universe in whatever way I
can. It is a part of my personal journey of life and expression of profession that I hold dear
which is social work. As is often the case, in giving I have received more than I imagined. Also,
because Kampung Gombak Utara is a small community and the family’s culture is distinct
from that of the city of Selangor, I had the opportunity to navigate both and function within the
two distinct environments. I am content with the service I have committed to, and I foresee
myself continuing this sort of service.
