Earth and Space Research Project

Year 4 Term 2
You will create a keynote presentation using the science information
learnt in class. The first topic is weathering and more information will
be added during the term. This project will be presented at the end of
term 2. Include pictures, headings and dot points.

Keynote slides:
1.Title
2. What is weathering? What affects how quickly rocks weather?
3. Physical weathering what causes this type of weathering? How
does heat, wind and rivers weather rocks?
4. Chemical weathering- What is acid rain? How does it weather rock?
5. Biological weathering- How do plants and animals affect
weathering?
6. Weathering cycle chart you can locate this on Google.

WEATHERING SUMMARY

What is weathering?

Gradual destruction of rock where it

stands.

What is Physical weathering?

Rocks broken down by heat, water

&/or pressure.

What is Chemical weathering?

Rain water mixes with chemicals in

the air to make an acid (acid rain)
that eats away at rocks.

What is Biological weathering?

Plant roots break through the rocks

and burrowing animals that dig
away at rocks

The chalk
fizzes a little
at the start
and then
slowly starts
to
disintegrate.

Acid in the

the chalk to

As the water

more room

water did.

What is Loam?
How is soil damaged by humans and nature?

Importance of Soil
Interesting fact: soil
is the top layer of
earths crust. Plants,
animals and humans
depend on soil.
Plants need soil to
live. This is because
plants grow their
root system in soil
and it stops them
from blowing away.
