Riddle of the Day

There was a tunnel that was said to be haunted. Three schoolgirls
decided to go there one evening to test their courage. When they looked
into the tunnel,it was pitch black and the girls started to lose their nerve.
They decided to hold hands and run through the tunnel. They ran through
the darkness and didnt stop running until they reached the end. When
they came out on the other side, without anything happening to them, the
girls were grasping for breath and laughing. Holding hands made it less
scary, said one girl. Im glad I was in the middle, said the other.Me too,
said the third.

On Afrofuturism
When it comes to depictions of the
future and sci fi Black people are commonly
left out. It is because of this alienation that
Afrofuturism is meant to allow black people
to embrace the future. A major theme in
Earthseed (Afrofuturism) is that the world
will become so bad that Black people will
have to move to another planet.

Book of the Week

His Own Where by June Jordan
The plot of the story revolves around a high school student named
Buddy who has to take up all domestic responsibilities after his father's car
accident. In this time he falls in love with a girl named Angela who gets
abused at home. What makes this book special is that aside from being the
only book written fully in Black vernacular, this coming of age story deals with
blackness and what it means to grow up Black. The Blackness expressed in
this book can be seen as activistic in the both the way it is written which
challenges the monopolization and control of language which is a complete
control of knowledge, culture and interaction with institutions and in the plot
as Buddy starts a protest, is able to sustain a house, saves Angela from an
abusive household and decides to have a child with her which when all
synthesized shows how in power he is.
