Thisclassistopreventhistoryfromrepeatingitselfbyteachingtheyouth,showingthem
thatproblemsarebiggerthantheyseem,andthenconfrontingthemabouttheseproblems.My
rolewasmostlyleadingtheclass.Iwasinchargeofcomingupwiththeactivitieswedidwith
theschool.Forexample,Icameupwiththeideaofthepuzzlepieceactivity.Igainedleadership
skills,andIimprovedmycommunicationskills.Inthisclass,Itookmoreofaleadershiprole
thanItypicallydo.Ihelpedleadclassdiscussionsandleadbrainstormingwhencomingupwith
ideasforschoolwidepresentations.Iimproveduponmycommunicationskills,becauseI
learnedhowtotalktopeoplewhentheydidntwanttowork.Ialsolearnedhowtogetother
studentsinvolved,givingthemavoiceoftheirown,whennormallytheydonottalkoutinclass.
ThethingIwillremembermostaboutFacingHistoryisallofthediverseideaswereceivedin
class,andhoweveryonehastheirownviewsonthesametopics.AstudentshouldtakeFacing
Historybecausetheylearndifferenttechniquesonhowtoaddressthemanycontroversialofthe
world.Thisclasswillalsogivethemdifferentoutlooksontopics.Otherschoolsshouldhave
FacingHistorypresentations,inmyopinion,becausetheyaddressissueswithintheschooland
theworld,andgivethestudentstheirownvoices.
