THE OCTO REFUGEE HEALTH CENTURE (ORHC)

Hello my name is Cody harker and I represent CMR Corporation and my panel of
experts including engineering genius, Ryan Till and electrical extraordinaire Michael
Wilson and myself as head designer.
Being refugee week, our company has designed the Octo Refugee health center to
revolutionize the way we care and process refugees in a humane and
environmentally sustainable way. The building will provide the refugee community
with a means to collect much needed supplies such as bottled water and food, CMR
will also provide accepted refugees with a small loan to get them going in the world.
Part of CMR is a health center this will give refugees coming in with sufficient health
care to begin their new life Australia.
The building will be located in Western Australia this will reduce the trauma for
refugees. It will reduce the trauma because they will not have to catch a plane over
to the other side of the country. The building is a two level building and consists of
seven zones.
Zone 1 Foyer, processing area. This area has state of the art high security
cameras and analysis so that only the true refugees will be able to come in
Australia.
Zone 2-cleansing shower room- here people will have time to clean and refresh
themselves
Zone 3- medical assistance room- in this room doctors and nurses will be on hand to
provide any health care required.
Zone 4- Rest area, sleep zone and counselling area. In the Octo refugee health care
center mental health is as important as physical wellbeing as some of our patience
have escaped war.
Zone 5- Childrens playroom- in this room children can finally feel free and safe after
their long journey.
Zone 6- Trucking and food receiving dock, including conveyer belt packing of
received foods. This dock receives food from very generous businesses and is
packed into boxes for the refugees to refuel.
Zone 7- storage and office- this is the place the workers check entrants to ensure
they are safe for Australia. Illegal immigrants with bad intentions can be picked up
here and returned to the country where they originated.

The main function of the building is to pack and distribute food bags and check the
wellbeing of the refugees until they get processed and move to a more permanent
destination.
The building is designed for extremely low energy usage. CMR have estimated the
costs of yearly light usage at $436.00, weekly amount is $8.38 and the extremely
low daily amount of $1.19. This is calculated at $0.20/ kW= 2184 hours a year. The
design of the building allows for cross ventilation to reduce the air conditioner
usage- CMR have estimated the air conditioning costs at $3650.00 per year, this is
$70.19 a week and only $10 per day. This is worked out by using a 5KW air
conditioner isolated only to the rest zone at 10 hour usage per day times by 365
days per year= 18,250 kw/ y.
CRITIC THE Project
The issues our group faced in doing the projected started with the usual issues a
group faces when working together for the first time. this includes time
management, work divisions and res[possibilities. Our group worked well together
but had challenges with too many ideas and narrowing down to one usable idea. We
explored the idea of making a particle accelerator but this idea did not go far as it
did not benefit the society. Our next idea was a natural science museum but we
came to the conclusion that the Refugee Health Centre would be the best building
to design for the community. The other challenges with the construction of our
model was we soon realized that each panel of the building had to be precisely cut
or the building would not work. The roof design could have been improved on a
remodel if we had more time. We would keep the roof as one sold piece, on top of
the glass highlights. We also were faced with the challenge of not having the model
and other equipment onsite at crucial times, which caused delays. However overall
we are very happy with the outcomes of our model. We feel it fits the brief well and
we hope that the final result is as we envisaged.
Thank you for your time and we hope that CMR has convinced you to invest in this
project. Without this project Australias intake of refugees will still be insecure and
inhumane.
