During May and June, GVI successfully erected a fence around the Magapane Day Care Centre to protect the children from roaming livestock. Funds for the fence were generously donated by volunteers and their families. With additional funds raised, GVI will now build a new classroom for the centre, as the children currently do not have a proper classroom. The goal is for GVI to get involved in the local community through educational projects like this one.

Report Title Community Upliftment project at Magapane Day Care Centre
Objective Putting up a fence
Summary During May and June GVI has successfully managed to put up a fence at Magapane crche. The main reason for the fence was to protect the children, from the livestock that roam free in the village. Funds for the fence came from volunteers and their families who were so generous that almost enough monies were raised for not only the fence but for the restoration of the rest of the crche.
Report Community upliftment trips are one of the most loved activities by our interns and volunteers. The fence line project has the volunteers working long hours under the African sun, it involves a lot of hard work but is rewarding and enjoyable. The fence has been put up to stop livestock from entering the centre and to provide a safe environment in which the children can play.
We have raised enough funds through our charitable trust, and we will be starting a new project at the crche. The plan is to build them a classroom as they dont have a proper classroom, it is part of our objectives as GVI to get involved in the local community and after the classroom is done we will start with educating the children at the centre.
At Karongwe we believe an extremely important part of conservation is education of the local community, namely children. As it is these people who will one day be responsible for the preservation of South Africas flora and fauna.
Community involvement is an extremely important part of the GVI experience and not only helps to give international volunteers a greater insight into the local way of life but offers them a chance to make a difference.
