Online Partial D ischarge Testing o n HT Pane l:

Online Partial Di scharge Testing
is p erformed online with out disrup ting plant or facility
operations. This nondestru ctive, noninvasive predictive maintenance tool as sesses the
conditi on of switchgear, feed er cables, and bus d uct to provide critical information regarding
the lev els of parti al discharge and its potential impact on the health of t he electrical asset. The
cost to perform online testing is relat ively inexp ensive co mpared wit h offline testing tha t
requires interruption of service and production. Fo r critical fa cilities that operate 2 4x7, online
testing is consider ed the single best option for detecting insulation condition.

ACOUSTIC METHOD
TEV
HFCT
UHF

1) Aco ustic Method:Acoustic partial discharge measurement can be easily applied on AIS
withou t the need of interrup ting the op eration. A coustic Par tial discharge measur ements rely
on close acoustic contact of t he area pr oducing discharge. This method is also very effective in
localization of PD.

2) TEV Detection:
All electrical equi pment prod uces a bro ad range o f sound. The basic electrical pro blems tha t
produce distinct u ltrasound waves that can be detected by Ultrasonic Testing include partial
discharge, corona and tracking. Ultrasonic measurement is mo st powerful on comparative basi s
and will significantly increase the reliability of correct detectio n of partial discharge.

3) HFCT
HFCT is used to detect high frequency current pulse discharging through earth strip from system
ground. It is also helpful in getting PD Pattern. Its Frequency range is upto 20 MHz. It is clamp on
type CT so that it can easily fixed on earth strip.

4) UHF
