The Egyptians were the first group to study Fractions

They expressed other fractions as the sum of unit fractions, but they
weren't allowed to repeat a unit fraction in this addition.
For example this is fine:
3/4=1/2+1/4
But this is not:
2/7=1/7+1/7

Importance
Used to describe parts of something to divide something
People use it everyday in activities like cooking, carpentry,

sports, sewing and driving


Its necessary for students to learn fractions so they can

take higher order math courses like algebra, where the


topic of rational expressions involves adding and
subtracting expressions in fraction form.
