OFFICE OF MAYOR SAM ADAMS

CtlY OF PORTLAND

May 5,2010

Because I am deeply interested in creating safer streets for everyone, I hereby endorse the
National Ride of Silence to remember andhonor thos~ who have been injured or killed
while riding a bicycle along our roadways.

In Portland, bicycling and walking are important transportation modes that reduce
congestion and pollution while improving the health and sustainability of our city. While
there is great public desire to walk and bicycle, our residents have consistently said that.
fear oftraffic keeps them from being active.

The Ride of Silence re-commits us to making our streets safer for everyone and reminds
all of us to share the road

Sincerely,

~~
Sam Adams, Mayor
