CVS - Material Handling System

CVS - MHS
Design Concept

CVS Material Handling System considers reduce manual work and to avoid time-demanding
material handling and automatic operation.

The plant is generally designed for the storage into bins, extraction, weighing, transport and
charging of ferroalloy, additives and fluxes into scrap bucket, into the ladle in tapping position and to
the ladle refining station.

All plant fuctions, specifically from storage bins up to loading to the final users, are controlled
automatically.

The dosage is carried out with high accuracy to obtain maximum technical results and, at the same
time, to use additives and fluxes in the best possible way to minimize expenses.

Suitable interlocks will guarantee the right positioning of the devices.

Maximum and minimum level gauges in storage bins will warn operators.

Belt Conveyors -1

The normal belt conveyor consists of a

group of a mechanical parts and structures
comprehending the following:

•Drive unit with electric motor, gear box,

drive rubbered pulley and a group of
transmission belts to drive the bucket belt.

•Return unit with return pulley and cleaning

scraper.

The normal belt is supported and guided

by a series spaced rollers with adjustable
support.

•Drive pulley installed on bearings supports and droved by the driving station. It is properly
covered by rhomb groove shaped clutching rubber to avoid sliding between the drive pulley
and the belt during transport.
CVS - MHS
Belt Conveyors - 2

•Driving station composed by electric motor,

transmission belts with relevant pulley and reduction
gear directly keyed by wedge on the driving pulley
shaft.

•Return pulley installed on sliding bearing supports

on suitable guides and adjusted by threaded
tensioning bars which are devoted to tension the belt
and to make adjustment to take the belt in the centre
of the pulley.

•Return pulley scraper composed of a special

double scraper directly linked to the pulley support,
scraping the pulley and the belt at the same time in
order to avoid material building up and entering in
between the belt and the pulley. The adjustment of
correct working position is obtained by acting on a
screwed tie rod.

Bucket (Elevator) Belt Conveyors
The bucket belt conveyor consists of a group of a
mechanical parts and structures comprehending the
following:

•Drive unit with electric motor, gear box, drive rubbered

pulley and a group of transmission belts to drive the bucket
belt.

•Return unit with return pulley and cleaning scraper.

•Lower bend with adjustable pulley and wheels to guide the

bucket belt.

•Upper bend with support roller and wheels to guide the

bucket belt.

The buckets belt is composed by a base plied belt with side

boards and cleats to contain and carry up the material. The
buckets belt is supported and guided by a series spaced
rollers with adjustable support.

Electromechanical Vibrating Extractors
The electromechanical vibrating extractors is composed of two main parts:

Fixed part (static terminal)

Vibrating part (vibrating channel).

The fixed part and the vibrating one are connected together by an elastic junctions (tie ropes)
which permit the vibration of the channel. The vibration is caused by the simultaneous action of
the couple of unbalanced drives.

Pneumatic Deviator

The pneumatic DEVIATOR is a distributor with two working positions to convey the material towards
other two users in an alternative mode. The deviation is made by an internal rotating chute
commanded by a pneumatic cylinder.

CVS - MHS
Pneumatic Shell Valve

The pneumatic SHELL VALVE is a gate to be

installed at the outlet of a storage hopper, with two
positions (open-closed) to discharge the material.
The operation is made by a rotating shell gate
commanded by a pneumatic cylinder.

The open-closed positions are detected

by adjustable limit switches which have
to be fixed in the right position. Take
care that the limit switches supports
remain fix and stable after installation.

Pneumatic Swivelling Discharging Tube
The pneumatic SDT (Swivelling Discharging
Tube) is a distributor with two working positions
to convey the material towards other two users in
an alternative mode. The operation is made by
an inclined rotating chute commanded by a
pneumatic cylinder.

CVS - MHS
Weighing Hopper

The weighing hopper is a container

installed on a frame with 3 compression
cells, below the battery bins. When filled
by the material extracted from the
storage bins, the load cells transmit a
signal to a PLC card, which transform the
electric signal (mV, mA) in (kg-weight).
CVS - DRI Continuous Feeding System

CVS - DRI Continuous Feeding System

It is possible to charge HBI up to 30% without continuous feeding, and up to 100%

using top feeding.

Slag control, feeding rate and power input are the key factors in continuous charging
procedures.
CVS - DRI Continuous Feeding System

Continuous feeding of HBI is typically performed to: Physical requirements for

continuous feeding of HBI and
• To eliminate one or more buckets from the charge, DRI:
thereby reducing heat losses and power off time
• Allow high rates of HBI use. • HBI must be present as single
• Boost productivity and reduce heat losses by briquettes or pieces to prevent
combining melting and refining. jamming on conveyor belts and
transfers,

• A maximum briquette
dimension that is less than 50%
of the minimum hopper opening,

• Low abrasion index to prevent

excessive dusting and yield
loss.

AUTOMATION

Two operating modes are

available :
- MANUAL mode.
- AUTOMATIC mode.

In MANUAL mode it’s possible to

do following operations:

-The single or compound

movement of equipments with
Supervisor PC and Manual box

In AUTOMATIC mode equipment

commands are in accordance with
the operating standards as
decided with the customer.

AUTOMATION

Supervision system
runs under WINDOWS
XP.

The graphic
environment is
composed from a
series of pages
managed by the
consumer through the
principal
menu (visible on the
tall part of the video).

CVS - MHS
AUTOMATION

The principal functions of

the Automatation are:

• Real time monitoring of

state of plant by
animations and colouring.

• Alarms management with

pages and parts colouring.

• Execution of manual
movements.

• Complete management
of automatic weighings
and choice of destinations.
CVS - MHS
AUTOMATION
• Record of daily consumptions ( 30 days ), historical castings ( max 40 ),
stored weights.

• Setup of max load, tail weight, dribble weight, material description.

• Frequently used recipes archive.

• Menu charging stocks.
