HC-L cranes.

Technology for the future.

The HC-L series with
level luffing.
The HC-L series of luffing jib cranes developed by Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH sets new standards. The latest
HC-L generation features pioneering technology with level luffing for a horizontal load path.
Programmable logic controller (PLC) enables a luffing jib crane to perform a horizontal load movement similar to that
of a top-slewing crane with a trolley jib.

1Level luffing.
Intelligent control.
Programmable logic controller (PLC) allows a luffing
jib crane to perform a horizontal load movement simi-
lar to that of a top-slewing crane with a trolley jib. This
is an entirely new overall technological concept.

During jib movements the new control unit automat-

ically resets the hoist gear so that the hook moves
horizontally – a crucial advantage for assembly and
concreting tasks.

Precise load movement.

The level luffing function can be switched on or off
by the crane operator as required. Simultaneous
operation of the jib and hoist gear is also possible
at any time, for optimal efficiency and to suit con-
struction-site requirements.

This new technology makes crucial time savings

possible and greatly simplifies the crane operator’s
task. Setting down loads with a high level of ac-
curacy and precisely where required is also signifi-
cantly easier. This greatly facilitates load handling,
in particular on confined building sites.

2High handling capacity.
High-performance drives.
Liebherr luffing jib cranes are equipped with high-performance drives that guarantee maximum handling capacities and
boost profitability. HC-L cranes are equipped with the very latest Liebherr-built hoist, luffing and slewing gear drives. All
cranes with a level luffing function are fitted with infinitely variable frequency-controlled drives.

FC hoist and luffing gear.

Liebherr offers a wide range of high-performance drives, with the ideal rated output available for any application. Their
principal benefits include automatic load moment monitoring, travel at micro speeds, use of the full extent of joystick travel
and load holding without engagement of the hoist gear brake.

FC slewing gear.
The new FC slewing gear drive enables the crane to be slewed at micro speeds without jerks or jolts, and also detects and
suppresses wind and load influences. The control unit matches slewing gear drive torque automatically to the jib position.
The integrated anti-sway function identifies and prevents crane vibration and load swing.

Greater hook heights.

For greater hook heights the new 3-speed FC hoist gear, for instance, is rated at 110 kW. Hook
heights of up to 625 m are available for single-reeved working. With this crane specification,
the hook moves at up to 240 m/min, thereby ensuring exceptional efficiency on very high-rise
building projects.

Rapid re-reeving.
Straightforward re-reeving of the hook from single- to double-reeved operation allows
HC-L cranes to be adapted efficiently and quickly to construction site conditions and
maintains their high handling performance. A version for single-reeved hook opera-
tion only is available as an option.

3 Practical
details.
Easy-assembly transport units.
HC-L cranes employ a modular system for assembly in real-life
situations. The slewing platform can be broken down into sepa-
rate parts, each of them easy to erect. The cab platform with the
crane cab can be bolted on or detached separately.

Easily accessible drives.

All drives are easily accessible for servicing tasks on a machine
platform of generous size.
A large number of plug-type electrical connections is provided
for rapid crane assembly.

Control and monitoring system.

These cranes are supplied as standard with the electronic
monitoring system (EMS), the load moment limitation system
(LMB), the working range limiting system (ABB) and the ma-
chine data logging system (MDE). On request, HC-L cranes can
be equipped with additional electronic components such as the
anti-collision system (AKS), remote data transmission (DFÜ) and
a machine data evaluation system (MDA).

Pre-installed plug connections for rapid start-up. Separate slewing platform elements for assembly and dismantling at great heights.

4 The IC tower
system.
Climbing inside buildings.
The Internal Climbing (IC) tower system was developed specifically
for lift shafts of limited size. The tower has overall dimensions of just
1.9 m x 1.9 m and is therefore suitable for the narrowest of lift shafts.

To save space and to protect the assembly, the entire climbing hydraulics
are located inside the tower section, with everything designed to keep
the tower’s external dimensions as low as possible.

Particular attention has also been paid to easy handling of the guide frames.
Special tower sections are used at the clamping points. The tower sec-
tions need no additional reinforcement.

When dismantling the cranes in high-rise buildings, the add-on compo-

nents of the climbing section can easily be removed as a weight reduc-
tion measure.

Climbing outside buildings.

The IC tower system can also be used for climbing outside buildings.
The rigid tower sections provide high hook heights and need only a small
number of anchorages to the building.

This tower system is also suitable for trolley jib cranes.
