WHAT IS REASEARCH ?
Research refers to the systematic method
consisting of enunciating the problem,
formulating the hypothesis , collecting the data,
analyzing the facts and reaching certain
conclusions towards the concerned problem.
OBJECTIVES OF A RESEARCH:
Here, the main objective of conducting a reseach
are :
To gain familiarity with a phenomenon
To Portray accurately the characteristics of
various Telecom Service Users.
To determine the frequency with which something
occurs or with which it is associated with
something else.
To test a hypothesis of a relationship between
variables.
* To find out the truth which is hidden
and which has not been discovered as
yet.
* To discover answers to questions
through the application of scientific
procedures.
* To test a hypothesis of a causal
relationship between variables.
PROCESS OF RESEARCH
FORMULATING THE RESEARCH DESIGN.
LITERATURE SURVEY.
DEVELOPING OF WORKING HYPOTHESIS.
PREPARING THE RESEARCH DESIGN.
DETERMINING THE SAMPLE DESIGN.

RESEARCH DESIGN
Research design is the conceptual structure within
which research is conducted , it constitutes the
blueprint for the collection , measurement &
analysis of data.
Methods of Research Design:
1)Exploratory Research Design.
2)Descriptive Research Design.
3)Causal and experimental Research Design.
Descriptive research design
Descriptive research studies are those which are
concerned with describing the characteristics of a
particular individual , group etc . The design in
such studies must be rigid & not flexible and focus
on 6 following points:
1)Who 2)What 3)When
4)Where 5)How 6)Why.
DATA OF RESEARCH:
COLLECTION OF PRIMARY DATA:
BY QUESTIONNAIRE
In this method, information can be collected from
a wide area in a comparatively short time with
reasonable standard of accuracy.
Here, the information is more authentic as it is in
respondent’s own hand-writing.
QUESTIONNAIRE:
The collection of data through questionnaire is
one of the most popular methods used these days.

A Questionnaire is a tool or device for securing

answers to the set of questions by the respondents
who fills in the form of questionnaire himself.

The Questionnaire are normally arranged in

sequence depending on the nature of the study &
are administered for a reply.

SAMPLING :
Sampling enquiries are becoming more & more
popular in all spheres , but they are specially
advantageous in case of social surveys.
Absolute accuracy is not essential.
In large scale studies , averages are considered
fairly significant in any enquiry.
HOW TO SELECT A SAMPLE:
Various practical considerations are;
Universe: must be well-defined.

Sampling Unit: The 1st decision is to be made about

sampling unit. The unit must possess the
characteristics of a good sampling unit.

The process of Sampling: If a method of sampling other

than simple random sampling leads to increase the
accuracy of results or reducing the cost of enquiry then
it should be preferred.
SAMPLE SIZE:
The sample must be of an optimum size i.e. it
should neither be excessively large nor too small.

Technically, the sample size should be large

enough to give a confidence interval of desired
width & as such the size of the sample must be
chosen by some logical process before sample is
taken from the universe.
ANALYSIS OF DATA :
The term analysis refers to the computation of
certain measures along with searching for patterns
of relationship that exists among data group.
The collected data has to be processed & analyzed as
per plan formulated at the time of research planning.
The processing involves :
CODING
EDITING
CLASSIFICATION
TABULATION OF COLLECTED DATA
REPORT PREPARATION :
Logical analysis of the subject method.
Preparation of the final outline.
Preparation of rough draft.
Rewriting & polishing of rough data.
Writing the final draft.
List of final findings.
Conclusion of the study
52.26 % students use RELIANCE because of
its economic tariff plans.
10.52 %students use AIRTEL because of its
strong network.
5.26 % students use VODAFONE because of
its strong network and better VALUE
ADDED SERVICES.
21.04 % students use B.S.N.L. because its
network is strong even in rural areas and
cheap call rates
5.26 % students use IDEA because of its
S.M.S PLANS
5.26 % students use DOCOMO because of
its cheap call rates.
REASONS OF SWITCHING
55% students switch from one subscriber to another
because of high call rates
30% students switch because of network problem.
8% students switch for better value added services
Rest 7% switch because of other reasons.
LIMITATIONS OF STUDY
Its geographical area is Lucknow only
Study covers only students
