OD INTERVENTIONS

OD interventions are plans or programs comprised of specific


activities designed to effect change in some facet of an organization

Intergroup interventions are integrated into OD programs to


facilitate cooperation and efficiency between different groups within
an organization

Focus on improving intergroup relations.


Provide ways of increasing interaction and communication.
Example:
Daimler-Benz AG and Chrysler Corp. to form DaimlerChrysler has
entailed challenges.
Indications of a financial flop.
The two have different skills and specialties.
Instead of collaborating, Mercedes and Chrysler groups often compete.
INTER-GROUP CONFLICT

Perception of other as the enemy

Decreased Communication

Praise of self

Inter-Group conflict depends on:

Steps-
OD practitioner meets the leaders of the groupfor understanding the requirement.
A & B two groups meet separately & are asked to write about the attitudes &
perceptions towards each other, problem related to group etc
Group also tries to anticipate what the other group would write
Exchange of written information & Understanding the communication gap
Helps in sorting out many issues and Unresolved problems are again discussed
Helps to improve interactions
MANAGING CONFLICT

Organizational conflict does not need to be


eliminated but instead managed.
Diagnosing conflict involves learning basic
conflict styles used in dealing with conflict:
Desire to satisfy self.
Desire to satisfy others.

Third Party Consultations – Uses third party, usually outside practitioners
to help open communications, level power and confront between
groups.
