DESCRIPTION:
This is an energy meter designed to use in single-phase domestic connections. This meter
is free from inherent defects of ordinary ferry wheel energy meters used currently, such as low
accuracy, low reliability, lack of user friendliness & safety, etc. This energy meter is designed
around an AT89C51 microcontroller. The microcontroller is fed with samples from current and
voltage sensing elements, which are a current transformer, and a voltage transformer respectively.
This yields a high degree of accuracy and reliability. The very use of microcontroller allows
programmability, which is one of the most important and useful features of this meter.

The project consists of the following main parts. A current transformer, a voltage
transformer, an ADC, a micro controller unit, a keyboard, an EEPROM and a dual line LCD
module. The current transformer and the voltage transformer act as the input transducers. The
ADC takes the input analog values and converts it to its corresponding digital values. These
digital values are all taken up by the micro controller and processed. The instantaneous input
values can store in to an EEPROM through the micro controller. The keyboard is used to set the
tariff .The system also include a voice chip for announcing the readings on the display.
