HBSC2103: TEACHING SCIENCE FOR LOWER PRIMARY II


SEPTEMBER 2010 SEMESTER

1. This assignment has ONE (1) question only.

2. Your assignment should be typed on A4 paper using 12 pt Times New Roman and 1.5
line spacing.

3. This assignment carries a 30% weightage towards the final grade.

4. This assignment should be prepared individually.

5. Your assignment must be submitted to the tutor.

6. Your assignment must be submitted before or by the 4th tutorial. Submissions after
deadline are not acceptable.

7. Your assignment should be limited to 10 – 12 pages only.

8. This assignment will be evaluated on the basis of the accuracy of the answers given and
the credibility of the supporting arguments, data and references.

9. Plagiarism in any form is prohibited. Plagiarised materials would not be accepted and no
marks would be awarded for the work.
ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

Analysis of students’ marks on the half-yearly school examination indicated that students in
Year 5 have poor understanding of the following concepts:
 Photosynthesis
 Compounds and mixtures
 Electrical conductivity
You have decided to remedy the situation by conducting experiments.
Conduct THREE sets of separate experiments that would allow your pupils to understand
these concepts.You are required to:
(a) Write THREE sets of procedures for conducting suitable experiments for the
concepts mentioned
(b) Conduct these experiments with a group of at least 10-15 students of varying abilities.
(c) Prepare a set of simple questionnaire of at least 12 items to explore students’
understanding of the concepts. Administer the instrument with the group of students .
Write a report based on the findings of the instrument that you have administered.
(Append your questionnaire and students’ responses as proof)
(d) Reflect on the activities that you have carried out and write a reflection in about a
page focussing on the strength of the experiments, issues related to getting students to
understand the concepts and other relevant aspects.
(Total : 30 marks)

Analisis tanda pelajar pada ujian sekolah setengah tahunan menunjukkan bahawa
pelajar Tahun 5 mempunyai pemahaman yang buruk tentang konsep berikut:
• Fotosintesis
• Sebatian dan campuran
• Listrik konduktiviti
Anda telah memutuskan untuk memperbaiki situasi dengan melakukan eksperimen.
Melakukan TIGA set percubaan berasingan yang akan membolehkan murid anda
untuk memahami concepts.You ini diwajibkan untuk:
(A) Write set TIGA prosedur untuk melakukan percubaan yang sesuai untuk konsep
tersebut
(B) Melakukan percubaan dengan sekumpulan minimal 10-15 pelajar yang memiliki
kemampuan pelbagai.
(C) Sediakan satu set kuesioner sederhana sekurang-kurangnya 12 item untuk
menjelajah pemahaman pelajar tentang konsep. Administer instrumen dengan
kumpulan mahasiswa. Menulis laporan berdasarkan penemuan dari instrumen yang
telah diberikan. (Tambah kuesioner anda dan tanggapan pelajar sebagai bukti)
(D) refleksikan kegiatan yang anda telah melakukan dan menulis refleksi di tentang
laman memfokuskan pada kekuatan percubaan, permasalahan yang berkaitan untuk
mendapatkan pelajar untuk memahami konsep-konsep dan aspek-aspek berkaitan
yang lain.
