• Functional Locations: Functional, Spatial or Process area (Ex.

Turbine area, Dam site); Superior technical object supporting
installation of sub objects & hierarchical data flow
• Equipments: Discrete technical object such as a Rotable/movable
piece of asset installed under a Functional Location (Ex Turbine,
Pump) or is standalone; Can be installed across Functional
Locations within a Maintenance enterprise structure; Usage periods
recorded
• Assemblies: A material type used for sub structuring a material to
lowest level of material parts (spare part); Created as a material of
type Assembly (Use AHAS – AGL Hydro Assembly post release 2);
Ex. Valve assembly, Pump assembly
• Spare parts: Lower level part in a structure; Material type to be
used post release 2 is AHSP

 BOM Usage: SAP System supports multiple usage of BOM’s in areas as

Production Planning (Production BOM), Sales & Distribution (Sales BOM), Plant
Maintenance (Maintenance BOM) – Usage 4 (To be used)
 BOM Types in PM: Functional Location BOM, Equipment BOM, Material BOM
 When to use which BOM type:
 Functional Location BOM: Simplest, For specific Functional Locations, Use
when no equipments are required under Functional Location or To avoid detailing
of a material BOM, Just create a Floc BOM and put the material parts/assemblies
that belong logically to the specific Floc structure
 Equipment BOM: Simple, Specific to an equipment, Use when you want to
structure an equipment (installed under a Functional Location) and you want to
put a substructure (Assembly/Parts) under it that only belong specifically to the
Equipment
 Material BOM: For Generic sub structuring that can be put under any
Functional Location or Equipment as a Construction Type (Field in Equipment/Floc
master)

 Creation of Functional Location master: Using transaction code IL01 with all
relevant details filled; To install a material BOM under a Functional Location,
Create mat BOM -> assign the material BOM in F Loc master in section Structure
-> Construction type
 Creation of Equipment master: Using transaction code IE01 with all relevant
details filled in; To install a material BOM under an Equipment, Create mat BOM
-> assign the material BOM in Equipment master in section Structure ->
Construction type.
 Creation of Assembly: Using transaction code MM01, Industry sector “Y-
Utilities”, Material type “AHAS”, Minimum views to be used – Basic data 1, General
Plant data/Storage1
 Creation of Spare Parts: Using transaction code MM01, Industry sector “Y-
Utilities”, Material type “AHSP”, Views to be used – Basic data, Purchasing (if they
would be purchased through PO func. In SAP), MRP (if subject to MRP – CBP,
reorder point based), General Plant data/Storage1/2, Accounting (if prices are to
be maintained in material master) – valuation class for spare parts to be
confirmed by Group finance , Costing (If Profit Ctr to be maintained in Material
Master)

 Scenario 1: Simplest Functional Location BOM structuring

a. Functional Location BOM was created for BAP-HVESYS with material
30000060, 30000061, 30000062 (Tcode: IB11 (Create), IB11/12
(Change/Display))
b. Material BOM for assembly 10013000 created (Tcode: CS01 (Create), CS02/03
(Change/Display)) and assigned as Constr. type in Floc BAP- HVESYS

 Scenario 2: Material BOM under Functional Location (section from above)

a. Material BOM for assembly 10013000 created (Tcode: CS01 (Create), CS02/03
(Change/Display)) and assigned as Constr. type in Floc BAP- HVESYS

 Scenario 3: Simple Equipment BOM structuring

a. Equipment BOM for Equipment 11151984 created (Tcode: IB01 (Create),
IB02/03 (Change/Display)) with material 30000191, 30000192

a. Create material BOM for assembly 34000000 using transaction code CS01
(Create), CS02/03 (Change/Display) with material parts 30000061, 30000062
b. Assign the material BOM as Construction type under Equipment 11151978

 Scenario 5: Detailed drilldown structuring

a. Create Equipment BOM for 11151978 using transaction code IB01(Create),
IB02/03 (Change/Display) with material part (spare part) 30000191
b. Create material BOM for assembly 34000000 using transaction code CS01
(Create), CS02/03 (Change/Display) with material parts 30000061, 30000062
c. Assign the material BOM as Construction type under Equipment 11151978
