1. William Edwards Deming
• Born the 14-10-1900 in Sioux City, Iowa
• Father: William Albert Deming
• Mother: Pluma Irene Edwards
• Raised in Polk City, Iowa. Then in Powel, Wyoming
• 1917: he moves to Laramie to enroll the University of
Wyoming
• 1921: Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering
• 1922: teaches in a mine in Colorado
• 1923: He marries Agnes Bell
• 1924: He works in the Western Electric
• 1925: He receives a Master of Sciences from the
University of Colorado
• 1927: He starts working for the United States
Department of Agriculture
• 1928: He doctorates in physics in the University of Yale
• 1930: Agnes dies
• 1932: Marries Lola Elizabeth Shape
• 1939: Member of the five-man Emergency Technical
Committee
• 1947: Helps in the planning of Japanese census
• 1950: He teaches hundred of engineers in SPC. JUSE's
board of directors established the Deming Prize
• 1980: “If Japan can… Why can’t we?”
• 1982: MIT publishes “Quality, Productivity, and
Competitive Position”
• 1986: FORD became the most profitable car company in
the US
• 1993: he died, he was 93 years old
