    19,000 barrels of oil per day into the Gulf of
    Mexico, but some estimates say the figure
    is probably closer to 25,000 barrel.
    • The shrimp and oyster fisheries along the
    Louisiana coast were among the first casualties.
    • Prime mating and nesting season for many bird
    and marine species when it happened.
    • Six hundred animal species are at risk, according
    to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and
    Fisheries, including more than 400 fish species and
    100 kinds of birds.
