Topic: “Picnic in the countryside”. Single period: 40 minutes

• Students will be able to understand and use quantifiers some any in context.

Warming up:
Time: 5 minutes
To start with, the teacher will greet the students and ask them to show her their name cards. Later,
she will ask students questions about the date and the weather condition. Then, one student will be
asked to write the date and the weather condition on the board. Afterwards, the teacher will ask
them to read them aloud. Also, I will call the attendance.

Presentation: Time: 15 minutes


The teacher will introduce the topic through the story “Picnic in the countryside” (from the
book flashlight 2 pg: 18-19) which the students will listen to via CD or cassette twice. In that way
they will be able to listen to the people’s real voices and pay attention to their pronunciation. Then
the teacher will read the story using body language and flashcard to convey the meaning of the
new vocabulary. She will also put emphasis on “some-any”.
She will stick some sentences on the board and she will underline the words some- any.
Then, she will ask the students the meaning of some-any. If they can not answer, she will explain
that some – any is used to express a quantity or an amount of something. Afterwards, the teacher
will tell the students that we can use “some- any” with countable plural nouns and uncountable
nouns. The teacher will remind the students about countable and uncountable nouns and the use of
there is/are. She will explain that “there is” is always used with uncountable nouns and singular
countable nouns and “there are” is only used with plural countable nouns. She will ask the
students to look at the sentences again and she will ask them “when can we use some; when can
we use any? The teacher will guide them telling that they should pay attention to affirmative,
negative and interrogative sentences. After that, she will stick on the board a chart from flashlight
book pg: 22. She will explain the chart giving examples orally.
Practice:
Activity Nº 1: Reading
Time: 10 minutes
Repetition
Choral Repetition: To begin with, the teacher will ask the students to open their books at
pg 18 and 19. It will be the story from the presentation. First, she will ask students to listen to her
carefully. Then, she will make the students repeat the sentences after her.
Then the teacher will ask for some volunteers: two girls and 2 boys to read the
dialogue. Whenever the students make mistakes during the repetition, the teacher will correct
students’ mistakes by exaggerating her pronunciation.

Activity Nº 2
Time: 10 minutes
The teacher will introduce a game called “stepping Stones”. Then she will stick a big
poster of this game on the board. The teacher will divide the class into two groups one will be the
“Some team” and the other will be “Any team”. The captain of each team will do Rocks, paper
and scissors to decide who starts the game. Later the teacher will explain the game to the students.
One character of “Casi Angeles” wants to cross the river to meet his/her friend on the other side
of the river but he/she needs the help of the learners. One student will have to come to the front
and remove one envelope. In this envelope the player will find a sentence to complete with some
or any. If it is correct the character will move forward. The character that gets first to the other
side of the river will be the winner.

Activity Nº 3
Time: 5 minutes
Using the student’s book and workbook. First, the teacher will ask the students to open
their workbooks (flashlight2) on page22. Then, she will ask them to do Exercise 2, “Choose the
correct word”. In order to do so, she will tell the students to bear in mind the rules of some and
any that will be stuck on the board. She will read the first example and explain why it is correct.
Having finished the activity, the students who offer themselves to read the correct sentences will
be given stickers. The activity is as the following.
Activity Nº 4
Time: 5 minutes
The teacher will continue working with the student’s book, on page 22. Then, she will ask
them to do Exercise 3, “Complete the paragraph. Use “some and any”. In order to do so, she will
tell the students to bear in mind the rules of some and any that is stuck on the board. She will read
the first example and explain it. Having finished the activity, the students who offer themselves to
read the correct sentences will be given stickers. The activity is as the following

Activity Nº 5
Time: 5 minutes
Using the student’s book and workbook. The teacher will ask the students to keep their
books opened (flashlight2) on page22. She will tell them that now they will work in pairs. She
will ask them to do Exercise 4, “In pairs ask and answer about the picnic”. In order to do so, she
will tell the students to bear in mind the rules of some and any that is stuck on the board. She will
read the first two examples and explain it. Having finished the activity, the students who offer
themselves to read the correct sentences will be given stickers. The activity is as the following.
Activity Nº 6
Time: 5 minutes
The teacher will work with the song and reading file page 57

Production
Time: 15 minutes
“Complete the conversation with some and any”. The teacher will ask the students to
work individually. Next, she will explain them the activity. She will also ask the students to read
the incomplete conversation and complete them using some- any. Then she will give each student
a copy of a conversation to. When they finish the activity, they will have to come to the front to
check it orally.

Finishing the class: 3 minutes
The teacher will remind the students that next class they will have a short written and oral test
(Assessment). The test will be about everything they studied the last three classes (Vocabulary of
food and drink, singular and plural nouns, countable and uncountable nouns, the use of some and
any). She will tell them they have to study hard, and bring their folders and workbooks completed.
Homework
Having checked their production, the teacher will tell the students that for next class they have to
do:
Activity 3 “Complete the chart” page 82
Activity 4: “Complete the conversation” page 82;
Activity 5: “Write sentences. Use there’s or There are, affirmative or negative, and some or any”.

This practice will be helpful for them to study at home before the assessments.
