Class, I have here a story.

Erika and her family followed a well-used trail


going up Mt. Makulot.

When they reached the top, they brought out their


seeds. They planted them on the bald portion of Mt.
Makulot. On their way down, Erika and her family
picked up the trash left by the other climbers. They
were happy they spent the day in Mt. Makulot.

What do we call with these words? I think these are prepositions, Sir.

C. Presentation/Discussion

This morning we will be learning about prepositions.

What is Preposition? Is used to show how noun or a


pronoun relates to some other words in a sentence.
Keep in mind that preposition is always followed by a
noun or pronoun.

Prepositions – link nouns, pronouns, and phrases to


other words in a sentence.

Here is a list of some common prepositions.

For example:

1. The helicopter flew above the forest.


2. The volunteers walked across the river.
3. The locals received relief goods from the
government.
4. Inside the bags are canned foods and clothes.
5. Everyone planted trees around the area.

(The teacher will ask the pupils to identify the


preposition used in each sentence.)

Remember that prepositions are followed by nouns.

For example,

A little boy climbed on a rock.

In this sentence, the word rock is a noun. Then its


preposition is the word on.

Why is it that on is called preposition in this Because it connects the nouns


sentence? pronouns, and phrases to other words
in a sentence.
What is the noun in this sentence?
The noun in the sentence is the word

Another example, The preposition used is to, Sir.

He picked a flower and gave it to the volunteer.

What is the preposition here? Volunteer

Very good! How about the noun that follows the


preposition?

That’s right!

There are also sentences that use two prepositions.

For example:

Nikki and Debbie went to the mall with their parents.

This sentence contains two prepositions that made


the message clear enough. These are to and with.
Another example; of and into, Sir

The herd of horses scattered into the hills.

In this sentence, what do you think are the two


prepositions?

For now, let’s focus on when to use the prepositions
on, over, under, to, from, and above in a sentence.

When do we use the preposition on in a sentence? (Encourage the pupils to answer in a


complete sentence.)

On- use when talking about time, specific dates and


days.

For example;

I go to the gym on Mondays and Wednesdays.

He was born on September 24th.

It also indicates that something is already in the


position or on the surface of something.
When the thing is at a higher level than
For example; something else.

The book is on the table.

How about the preposition over?

Over - used to talk about movement or position at a


higher level than something else.

For example;

She drove her car over the hill.


A beautiful white bird flew over the lake. When talking about something that is
lower than something else

When will we use the preposition under?

Under – used when one thing is at a lower level than


another, and that the other thing is directly above it.

For example;

The cat is under the table.

How about the preposition to?

To- used in indicating that there is movement from


one place to another.

For example;

We’re flying to Manila on Thursday for a meeting.


When talking about where a person

How about the preposition from?

From – used to refer to the place where someone or


something starts or originates.

For example;

San-San comes from school.


When something is higher than the

And last but not the least is the preposition above.
When can we use above?

Above- used when something is overhead. Its


meaning is close to that of the preposition over.

For example; None, Sir.
