Review
Alright, what did we discuss last meeting class?
Last meeting we learned about Noun, Sir.

Very good! What is Noun?

Noun is a word that names something, such as a

person, place, thing, or idea. In a sentence, nouns

can play the role of subject, direct object, indirect

object, subject complement, and object

complement, appositive, or adjective, Sir.

Great! Now, I have here set of sentences. Identify Answers:

what noun is in the sentence.
1. Anna is dancing. 1. Proper Noun

2. We celebrate the birthday of our cousin. 2. Common Noun

3. Our school is very nice. 3. Common Noun

All of us got the perfect score, Sir!

Who got the perfect score?

I’m glad to hear that, give yourselves a Lasallian
Clap A, begin! (Students do as told)

C. Motivation
Okay, class I want you to listen for a short scenario:
“John saw a pretty girl. He went to talk to her.
Her husband arrived. The husband hit John on the
nose.”
1. What did the husband do? (Active voice is
used in the answer).
2. What happened to John? (Passive voice is
used in the answer) Answers may vary

Notice the sentence on the board. Analyze its

difference,
Statement of the Objectives and Subject Matter
It tells whether it is in the form of active or
passive voice. That is why this afternoon we are
going to discuss “Active and Passive Voice”
Please listen very carefully because at the
end of the lesson you will be able to:
Learning Objectives:   At the end of the lesson, the
students must have:
A. Differentiated Active Voice from
Passive Voice;
B. Constructed a correct sentence of
Active and Passive Voice; and
C. Discussed the value of hardworking.
D. Presentation of the Lesson:
Voice is the quality of verb that shows whether
the subject is the doer or receiver of the action.
On the other hands, when we talk about Active
Voice. This is used to indicate that the subject of
the sentence is the doer of the action.

Let us start with this simple sentence.

S V O
The boy kicked the ball.
- Active Voice
O V S
The ball was kicked by the boy.
- Passive Voice

In the following sentences, please note the

form of the verb when the subject is the doer
of the action.
1. A student wrote the winning essay.
2. Alexander Graham Bell invented the
telephone.
3. The Chef prepared a delicious meal.
So, class, what do you think are the subjects
or doer of the action in these sentences?

Absolutely correct! Observe that the

subjects’ student, Alexander Graham Bell, The subjects of these three sentences are Student,
and Chef are the doer of the actions. Alexander Graham Bell, and Chef, Sir.
So if that would be the case, what do you
think are the verbs being used in the
sentences?
Precisely! And, those verbs being used in the
sentences are what we called Transitive
Wrote, invented, and prepared.
Verbs with direct object. Thus, when the
subject or doer of the action does. The action
and verb has direct object. We could say that
the verb is an active voice.

Let us proceed to the Passive Voice.

Passive voice is created when the subject or
doer of the action is acted upon. This time
the subject will become the recipient of the
action.
Let us try to study these following sentences:
1. The winning essay was written by the
students.
2. The telephone was invented by
Alexander Graham Bell.
3. A delicious meal was cooked by the
Chef.
In each sentence above, observe that the subject
is the receiver of the action instead of being the doer
of it.
Always remember that the form of the verb when
the subject is the receiver not the doer of the action
is made up of was + past participle of the verb.
Therefore, it subject is acted upon the verb is in the
passive voice.
The difference between Active Voice and Passive
So, class, what do you think is the difference
between Active Voice and Passive Voice? Voice is that an active voice is a grammar term
used to classify sentences in which the subject of
the sentence is the one actively performing the
action of the verb. While passive voice is the
subject of the sentence is acted upon.

Perfect! Give yourselves a Lasallian clap A, begin! (Students do as told)

regard to our discussion this afternoon, let us have a

is being asked in each item.

I am glad to hear that. Indeed, all of you have fully

understood the lesson.
Values Integration
Is rewriting a sentence from active to passive voice
and vice versa difficult? Yes, Sir! But, it is fulfilling!

Exactly, writing something is quite difficult but

when we are exerting more efforts or hard work into
it, then, we could be able to learn from time to time.
Do not forget that transforming active voice to
passive voice and vice versa is just like working for
your family. You work because you wanted to give a
decent life to your family, same thing when you are
to learn this lesson, you are studying this because
you wanted to yield something out from it.
Are we all clear, class? Yes, Sir!
