Let’s have a short recap.
What did you learn yesterday?
Yes Daniel? Sir we discussed about verb.

Correct!
Now, class read the following sentences.
What are the verb used?

Carlos gave a speech.

Lito plays basketball.
Olive sings folk songs. gave, plays, sings

Therefore, what is a verb?

Yes Elizabeth? Verb is an action word or state of being.

Very good Elizabeth!

I’m happy that you understand our
lesson yesterday, so let’s give yourselves
a big hand.

B. Motivation
Before we proceed, I will let you watch (The students will watch a video clip entitled
a video first that is connected to our Rock in English)
lesson for today.

(After watching the video)

What have you notice in the video, what

is the video all about?
Yes Arci? Sir the video is all about active and passive
voice.
Excellent Arci!
As clearly seen in the video, every
sentences in the video tells whether it is
in the form of active or passive voice.
That is what we are going to discuss
now.

C. Presentation
Voice is the quality of a verb that shows
whether the subject is the doer or the
receiver of the action.

Now let us first define what is Active

and Passive voice

In active voice, the subject performs the

action denoted by the verb.
So in active voice class, the subject does
or “acts upon” the verb in such
sentences. For example, everyone please
read.
Marilyn mailed the letter.
In this example, Marilyn, the subject,
was doing the action. Am I clear class?
Yes sir!
I will give you more examples later
comparing with the passive voice.

Let’s proceed to the passive voice. One

can change the normal word order of
many active sentences (those with a
direct object) so that the subject is no
longer active, but is, instead being acted
upon by the verb – or passive.

So in passive, the subject is being “acted

upon”. And also in passive voice, the
object will be moved to the beginning of
the sentence and the subject will be
deleted or we can also put it on the last
using the proposition “by”. For example,
everyone please read.
The letter was mailed by Marilyn.
In this example, the direct object from
previous example was already on the
place of the subject which is “the letter”
and the subject here is being acted upon.
Let’s take a look at this draft

(The teacher will show the draft)

In the active voice, “the letter” is still a

direct object, and in passive, it was
already the subject. And also in passive
voice, we will change the verb: add a
form of BE in front of the verb, and use
the past participle.

Let’s have more examples comparing

both. Please read.
A student wrote the winning essay.
Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.
What are the subjects in the sentences? The chef prepared a delicious meal.

Yes Jodi?
Student, alexander Graham Bell and Chef sir.
Correct Jodi!

Observe that the subjects are the doer of

the action. What are the verbs used?

Yes Curvy?
Wrote, invented and prepared sir.
Very good!

How about the direct objects used in the

given sentences?

Yes Aya?
Winning essay, telephone and delicious meal sir.
Correct!

Let’s change the given sentences from

active to passive voice. Remember in
changing the sentence from active to
passive voice, the subject will now be
the receiver instead of being the doer of
the action. Always add BE form plus the
past participle of the verb used in the
given sentences.

Now, who wants to change the first

sentence?
Yes Joshua?
The winning essay was written by a student.
Very good Joshua!
How about the second sentence?
Yes Arvin?
The telephone was invented by Alexander
Excellent! Graham Bell.
And the last one?
Yes Bernadette?
A delicious meal was prepared by the chef.
That’s very correct Bernadette!
Do you have a question?
None sir.
D. Application

Now I’m going to tell you a short story,

a crime story that will also lead us to our
activity later. So please fasten your
seatbelts for we will be going to travel
towards the crime scene. Let’s imagine
that we are citizens on that place.

Are you ready now?

Yes sir!
The title of this crime story is Bank
Robbery at First National Bank.

The police were called to the First

National Bank yesterday. The bank was
robbed at 12:15pm. One million was
stolen. No customers were hurt, but one
robber was shot by police.

Seventeen customers were in the bank at

the time of the robbery. They followed
the instruction of the robbers, and
dropped to the ground. No customers
were hurt in the robbery. One robber was
shot by a police officer when he tried to
leave the bank. The robber was hit by
one bullet, but he escaped with the other
robbers. They drove away in a white
truck. Some of the customers were
interviewed on TV about the robbery.
They were happy to be alive after this
terrible experience.

“When the robber was shot, I screamed.”

Many clues were left at the bank. The

most important clues are fingerprints of
the robbers. The fingerprints were found
on the desk, on the doors, and on the
guns. Two guns were left at the bank as
the robbers escaped in a car. One robber
was shot, and the blood he left on the
floor is another important clue. The
fingerprints and the blood are being
studied by police investigators.

The robbers were filmed by the bank’s

cameras, but they have not been
identified yet. The video is being
analyzed by the police. Call the police if
you have any information.

And that’s the story of the Bank

Robbery. Did you understand the story
class?

Alright! Very good. Now let’s proceed

to our activity.

I have here a T-chart with Passive and

Active on top. What you are going to do
is to write as many as you can, the
passive voice you found on the story we
have a while ago, on the left side. I will
be providing you copies in each group
later on. And write down the active voice
of that passive sentence on the right side.
And after that, please post your work on
the board. Am I clear?
Yes sir!
Okay please go to your respective
groups now. I will be giving you ten
minutes to do your task.

Time’s up! Please post your works on

the board.
(Posting)
Okay, thank you so much! Now let’s
check.

Group 1, all correct! You have 20 points.

Group 2, all correct also! 20 points!

else? stay calm and don’t panic for us to be safe.
Yes Heart?
