Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of how world literature and other text
types serve as vehicles of expressing and resolving conflicts among individuals or groups; also how to
use strategies in critical reading, listening, and viewing, and affirmation and negation markers to
deliver impromptu and extemporaneous speeches.
Performance Standard: The learner proficiently delivers an argumentative speech emphasizing how
to resolve conflicts among individuals or groups.
Learning Competency: EN10VC-IIa-3.8: Assess the effectiveness of the ideas presented in the
material viewed taking into account its purpose EN10LC-IIa-11: Switch from one listening strategy to
another to extract meaning from the listening text EN10RC-IIa-11: Transcode information from linear
to non- linear texts and vice-versa
I. Objectives
At the end of the discussion, the students are expected to:
A. know the definition of assertion;
B. transcode information on the different types of assertion;
C. identify the type of assertion used in the statements;
D. connect the lesson into real life scenarios: and
E. learn the virtue of knowing facts with fake news.
III. Procedure
A. Motivation
The teacher will open the virtual class with a video showing the proper netiquettes and a
prayer.
The teacher will introduce the activity “Yey or Nay”.
Yey- statements that can be proven to be true or false.
Nay- statements which cannot be proven at all.
I think bananas can keep corona virus away. -Nay
Filipinos became cautious of their health during the pandemic. -Yey
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. -Nay
Doctors are the smartest people on Earth. – Nay
Milk is good for your body. - Yey

Basing on the activity that you had, what do you think is our topic today?
C. Lesson Proper
The teacher will give the definition of:
Assertion-term generally used to refer to statements of fact, opinion, belief and prejudice.
a. Fact- a verifiable statement. It can be proven objectively by verified observations or the results
of research among others. Because statements of fact can be double-checked for accuracy, there
is general agreement about the truth.
b. Opinion- personal judgment based on facts; hence, it is debatable and potentially changeable.
6. Eating black-eyed peas and cabbage on New Year's Day will give you good luck and
fortune for the remainder of the year.
7. If a Black cat crosses your path, it is bad luck.
D. Application
The teacher will give a 15 item activity wherein the students will identify the category of
assertion in the sentences.
IV. Generalization
The students will answer the following questions:
How important is having the skill on identifying fact with that of an opinion?
What is the importance of knowing fact, opinion and commonplace assertion in this time
of pandemic?
V. Evaluation
The teacher will give a 10-item comprehension check.
1. My teacher managed to calm my angry classmate by letting her speak her side. She really
knows how to control someone’s temper.
2. I do believe that audio-books are worthwhile reading material.
3. I think Mona Lisa in the painting looks sad.
4. South Korean dramas are the most watched during quarantine period.
5. It seems that Fast and Furious movies are interesting to watch.
6. My mother is very hospitable. She always welcomes other people in the house with that smile on
her face.
7. She leaves a lot of spaces in filling out forms. This proves that she finds filling in of forms
difficult.
8. Dogs hate cats.
9. Doctors are all rich.
10. The Covid pandemic started in 2019.
11. Snow drop is the best Korean drama.
12. Common symptoms of COVID-19 include a fever, cough, congestion, and shortness of breath,
chills, muscle aches, and loss of taste or smell.
13. Viruses are constantly changing, which is common and expected. These are called “variants”.
14. Boys are stronger than girls.
15. Pit bulls are dangerous.
