B. Developmental Activities

1. Review
What have we discussed last meeting? Anyone
who can recall? Miss, in the last meeting, we discussed the
third type of verb which is the linking verb.
Precisely! For me to assess your understanding
of our previous topic, let us have a short
activity. This activity is called “Link me”. This
activity will help you what appropriate linking
verb shall be used to complete the sentence.

I will state to you the mechanics of the game.

Mechanics:
1. I will be giving you our Kahoot link then you
need to log in by typing the code.Join
at www.kahoot.it
or with the Kahoot! app
Game PIN:

2. Once all of you are in the game, we will

start it.
3. There are choices in it, you just need to
choose the correct linking verb to complete the
sentence.
4. The correct answer will be shown.
5. Then the ladder board will present the name
of the student who is at the top at the end of the
game.

Are the mechanics clear to you class?

Yes, miss.

Alright! So, let us start the game ( the teacher

will present the link)

can now conclude that you really understood
our previous topic. Hence, I assume that you
are now ready for our next topic. Let us give ( students do as told)
ourselves a Lasallian Clap A, begin

C. Motivation
Before we proceed to our topic this morning,
let us watch first a short video. Please listen
carefully because, after the presentation, I will
ask questions. ( The teacher will flash the guide
questions on the screen )

Guide Question:
1. What are the activities done by the
characters in the video?

activity presented in the video and the
statements which talk about it?( teacher calls a

presented in the video is singing of the song.
The statements are “I sing the song “ and “

Yes, miss.
D. Statement of the Aim

voices of the verbs which are the active voice
and the passive voice. Please listen attentively

D. DISCUSSION

That's good to know! Now let us explore the

world of active and passive voice. Yes, miss.

Girls, can you read what is on the screen.

(On the screen)

Voice is the quality of a verb that tells whether

the subjects is the doer or receiver of the (Students do as told)
action.

Thank you girls! So voice is a quality of a verb

that tells whether the subject is the one who do
the action which we call "doer" or if the subject
is the one who receive the action which we call
"receiver".
Now, there are two types of voice which will
help us determine who are the doer and receiver
of the action.
Everyone please read the first type of voice.

The Two Types of Voice

The Active Voice (Students do as told)

Active voice is used to indicate that the subject
in the sentence is the doer of the action.

When the subject of the sentence does or acts

upon the verb in a sentence, the sentence is said
to be in the active voice. The verb is also in the
past or present tense.

Subject + verb + object

Altogether, please read the sentence?

The man kicked the ball.

Now , let us identify first the subject of the

sentence. What is the subject in the sentence? ( students do as told)

Very good! How about the verb and its tense?

The subject in the sentence is the man.

Alright! How about the object of the verb?

The verb in the sentence is kicked and it is

sentence? ( The teacher call a student)

The object of the verb is ball.

That's right! So, always remember that in the

active voice, the subject is the doer of the Miss, I notice that in the sentence the

Subject object

Is the first type of voice clear to you class?

Okay! So let us proceed to the second type of

the voice which is Passive voice. Altogether
read what's on the screen.

Yes, miss

The Passive Voice

Passive voice, the subject is acted upon; he or

(students do as told)
she receives the action expressed by the verb.
The agent performing the action may appear in
a "by the..." phrase or may be omitted. And
the verb is in the past participle

Object + verb + subject

So, if in the active voice, the subject is the doer

of the action. In the passive voice, the subject is
the receiver of the action. The subject is usually
seen at the end of the sentence and the object of
the verb is at the beginning. The verb is in the
past participle.

Here is another example. Everybody please

read the sentence

The ball was kicked by the boy.

What is the subject in the sentence?

(students do as told)

Next, identify the verb in the sentence and its

tense.

How about the object of the verb? The subject in the sentence is boy.

Alright! Now what have you noticed in the The verb in the sentence is kicked and it is
sentnce? in the past participle.

Verb (past participle)

The object of the verb is ball.

The ball was kicked by the boy.

Miss, I observed that the subject appears at

appears at the beginning. The subject is the

action. Therefore, the sentence is in the passive
voice.

Alright! Do you have question or clarifications

before we proceed?

Okay! Now, let us try to rewrite these sentences

from active to passive voice and vice versa.

So first, let us change sentences from active

None, miss
voice to passive voice. How are we going to do
it? Let us read the instructions.

Rules in changing active voice to passive voice

Simply exchange the places of the subject and

the object. The subject should become the
object and vice-versa.
Convert the main verb into its past
participle. When you change the verb form of
the main verb, the tense of the auxiliary also
changes accordingly.
Use the word “by” before the subject.
Example:

Active voice: Mary wash the plate.

In this sentnce, we will interchange the subject

which is Mary, and the object of the verb
which is plate. So in writing it the plate must be
in the beginning.
subject

Active voice: Mary wash the plate.

Passive voice: The plate was washed by Mary

Do you understand class?

Alright! At this point, we will proceed to the

second part which is changing passive voice
into active voice.
Rules in changing passive voice to active
voice Yes, miss

Simply exchange the places of the object and

the subject. The object should become the
subject and vice-versa.
Convert the past participle into main verb.
When you change the past participle of the
verb to a main verb, consider the tense of the
auxiliary verb.
Omit the word “by”.

Passive voice: The vacuum cleaner was

invented by the boy.

In this sentence, we will interchange our object

which is vacuum and our subject which is the
boy.
Active voice: The boy invented the vacuum.

NOTE: To identify passive voice, look at what

happened and look at who was responsible for
doing it. If the person or thing responsible for
doing the actions is either omitted or occurs in
the sentence AFTER the thing that happened,
AND if you see a past participle straight after
the form of “to be,” it's passive voice.

Alright! So, are the rules clear to you class?

Do you have any other questions?

E. APPLICATION

discussion this morning, let us have a quiz. This
quiz is consist of two parts. The first part is

Value Integration

With our discussions this morning, we learn

what is the voice of verbs is and the two types
of voice which are active voice and passive
voice. We are now familiar with the two terms
used, the doer and the receiver. Just like the
active voice that the subject does the action, in
our lives, we as the subject of our own lives are
responsible for our actions as doers and so does
when we receive. Most of the time we are like
active voice, am I right? We are the ones who
risk ourselves and actively participate in
activities which we think that can help us
improve. We are responsible for our actions as
doers, we should be mindful and watchful of
our actions because it is a reflection of who
and what we are as a person.

I wanna hear your thoughts about being a

responsible student as a doer. Can anyone say
something? Okay may I have (call a student)

Wow! That was a very good thought. How For me miss, as a student I need to be
about the importance of active participation? responsible for my actions because just like
Anyone? what you said our actions will reflect us.
Also, to think of the people around us as
they will become the receiver if what would
be their response to my actions that is why it
is very important to be responsible to our
actions because it will affect both I as a doer

successfully made connections with it to real-
life situations. Let us give ourselves a lasallian

opportunities for learning and development
of important skills, knowledge, and ability in
Assignment (Performance Task) all aspect.
Let us proceed to your performance task. For
your activity, you are going to compose a
persuasive speech for young adults convincing
them to exercise their vote. The speech must
contain active and passive voice. Be guided (students do as told)
