Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer

PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
You hold each of us in your loving hands.
Come fill our hearts, minds and bodies afresh with hope.
Help us to cast our worries upon you, so that we can embrace our learning
today.
Bless us as we study and grow together.
Come and anoint those who teach and tutor us to be bringers of insight and

2. Checking of Attendance
The teacher will use the roll call attendance tool.
A. Stimulating Activity
The students will be presented with a picture and be asked with questions.

1. What have you observed in the picture?

2. Do you love your country?
3. Do the picture instill patriotism? Explain.
4. Upon understanding the concepts and ideas of the picture, give some sentences as to how
would you describe the Philippines---its location, geographical divisions, culture, and the like.

B. Actual Activity
The students will be presented with a paragraph and be provided with a set of tasks and
questions to serve as guide during the processing of important concepts and information.

Read the paragraph. Then answer the questions below.

In the Philippines, weaving mats is widespread. The most colorful ones are found in
the markets of Jolo and Zamboanga. Weaving mats take several weeks-from the gathering
of pandan leaves to stripping, boiling, and dying until the weaving stages. The quality of a
mat is judged by its softness and the fineness of the weave as well as the elegance of the
design. Mats are also significant fixtures in Filipino homes. They are sometimes used in
rituals. In some places, mats are used as carpets to highlight an occasion. It is also cool
to sleep on, especially inside a nipa hut, where people sleep in the floor.
-A DepEd-BEAM Distance Learning Program, 2016

Students will answer the following questions for discussion.

1. Where are the colorful mats found?
2. What are mats made of?
3. How does one know that a mat is of good quality?
4. What Filipino value is shown in the article?

Study the following phrases taken from the paragraphs.

These phrases are called prepositional phrases. A prepositional phrase is a group of

words that begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or a pronoun as objects of
