It used to be that cars rusted out
long before the engines wore
out. But today's cars seem to
last much longer. For the most
part, that's good news. Except
now I find myself worrying
about other parts that wear out
at high miles. Since I'm in the
market for a car again, timing
belts seem to be my new stum-
bling block. In my price range,
cars tend to near the 75K mark
and many of them still haven't
had their timing belt replaced. I
know this is a good preventive
maintenance item, but I know it
can be expensive. However, I
also believe in the philosophy of
"if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" I
know it's a gamble not to
replace the timing belt, but
do you have any idea
how often they break?
And if they do, will it
damage the engine or
is it just one of those
things where I call AAA?

ically car repairs. For instance,
you wouldn't wait for your brakes
to stop working before you fixed

Warren Central’s Wilson Solares, reporter for Digital
Dragon, interviews SRO Glen Woodward.
In June, Glen Woodward was awarded SRO of the Year by the Kentucky
Association of School Resource Officers. This full-time county police officer has a wife
and a 7-year-old son. He’s also the minister at Bear Wallow Baptist Church.
Officer Woodward is a strong role model with many ideas about gaining student
trust so they will turn to him for help and advice. This year he requested a “Shout Box”.
The metal box is attached to the wall outside his office. Students are asked to
anonymously insert notes in the box about friends who need help with a problem. It
could be anything from bullying, abuse at home, no winter coat, or a weapons issue.
