SKYIMD
SkyIMD develops commercial turnkey aerial imaging solutions
with advanced technologies previously only available to military
customers.

• Founded in 2007 to develop and market technologies derived as part of a

NASA research project.
 The original project studied the application of new technologies for use in
manned aerial imagery solutions supported by an aerial broadband
network.
 Intended for use by state and local agencies such as disaster response,
and law enforcement.
• Privately Funded
• Based at KSQL San Carlos, CA
• Commercial version launched ‘Q1 2010
SkyFusion Pak
• Real Time Imagery
• Terrain map integration
• GPS enabled
• FAA STC-certified 172/182/206
•Turnkey

Operators on the ground and

command staff have immediate,
consistent information.

Includes: Imagery, date, time,

location of camera and image area,
elevation, range and field of view
information.

The images are grouped for

further post-flight analysis and
reporting.
Post-flight operations

•Compare or review image data

with previously captured
content
•Easy data management and
archiving
•Create .avi video of selected
image data
•Replay all visual information,
including moving map and
telemetry data
•Frame-by-frame review of
aerial intelligence

Fast, easy and free communications to X24
Email: near real time from air and post flight
Twitter: JPEG images with Geo data, links to videos, dynamic KML
X24 website: posting dynamic Google Earth image (KML) links
UStream from air and post flight, Twitter feed
SkyIMD UI – post flight review and selection of video segments, still
images with GEO data
X24 Lessons Learned
Imagery can be easily communicated to experts and analysts to
determine the scope of problems
 Are the bridges intact? Hospitals? What roads are impassable requiring
re-routing of emergency support personnel?
Timely imagery can be a force multiplier
Provide much faster response to time critical situations
Prioritize and distribute resources much more effectively
Several low cost imagery systems are better than one expensive
system.
 Backup, regional coverage, tasking support for more than the highest
priority issues.
Shared database systems are needed to identify imaging
tasking, analysis process and status with links to supporting
images and videos
Why SkyIMD? – Complete Systems Integration
We integrate best of breed technologies
into solutions that solve real problems.
• Hardware
 Sensors, gimbals, data processing
equipment, vibration mitigation
technology, file conversion, real time
communications, PODs, wiring, STCs
• Software
 Pre flight planning, in-flight ease of
use and communications, post-flight
data management, analytics
 Consistency, ease of use, analysis,
accessibility, communication,

• Documentation, training, best practices

 Hundreds of hours of flight testing,
optimization of aircraft procedures,
report generating, etc.
A breakthough in value, portabilty and functionality

•SkyIMD enables operators to

focus on generating imagery
rather than software
development and systems
integration.
•Real-time image
•Provides telemetry and geo-
spatial data with 3D map
overlays for context
•Images viewable with Google
Earth
•Intuitive, common-sense user
interface requires little training
