01 October
NLD’s leaders trip to Irrawaddy Division
NLD team led by U Kyi Win, MP elect from Labutta and U Kyaw Myint, MP elect from Zalun
started the trip to Irrawaddy Division to meet with NLD members and supporters from Ingapu,
Kanaung, Myanaung, Lemyethna and surrounding Townships. The main topic for the trip is to
explain NLD’s positions toward elections including boycotting to NLD members.
‘An election not worthy of support’ by U Win Tin

U Win Tin, an influential leader of the National League for Democracy writes an article in the
International Herald Tribune with the title of ‘An election not worthy of support’ in which he
encourages the international community to stop supporting Burma's flawed election and to reject
it. He said, "We refuse to abandon our aspirations for democracy in Burma and give the regime
the legitimacy it wants for its elections. With millions of people of Burma supporting our
position, we hoped the international community would understand the regime's intentions as
clearly as we do and pressure the regime to stop its unilateral and undemocratic process."
02 October
NLD youth members paid respect to UNA leaders
NLD youth members visited residences of U Pu Cin Siang Thang and U Htaung Co Thang, Chin
leaders from United Nationalities Alliance, and paid respect to them. They first went to U Pu Cin
Siang Thang’s house in Kyauktadar Township and paid respect to him and U Thein Pe, a
member of Committee Representing People’s Parliament and then went to U Htaung Co
Thaung’s house.

03 October
NLD leaders’ trip to Irrawaddy Division
NLD team led by U Kyi Win, an MP elect from Labutta Township meets with NLD members
from Ingapu Township at the house of U Ko Ko Myint, chairman of the Township NLD branch
and discussed about position towards elections and boycott campaigns as well as organizational
matters. The team also meets with members of the Lemyethna Township at the residence of U
Hla Win, secretary of Township NLD the next day.
05 October
NLD filed a lawsuit against the SPDC
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on behalf of the NLD filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court against the
SPDC over the dissolution of the NLD under the section 45 and 54 of the Specific Relief Act.
The present Union Election Law has no power to dissolve existing political parties as there is no
provision in the new Political Party Registration Law regarding existing parties that have been
registered according to the previous law. U Kyi Win, U Nyan Win and Daw Khin Htay Kywe,
lawyers of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi submit the lawsuit and the Court accepted it to register.
On 8th October, the Court accepted the case and announced the date of hearing on 18th October.
On the first day of the hearing, only U Kyi Win would be allowed to represent Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi.
05 October
NLD leaders’ trip to Shan State
NLD team led by U Ohn Kyaing with U Kyi Win, U Khin Maung Shein and Ko Myint Htay and
Ko Kyaw Thu Ya from Youth wing, meets with members from Taung Gyi district in Shan State
such as Taung Gyi, Namhsan, Loilen, Pindaya, Yatsauk, at the house of Daw Khin Moe Moe,
secretary of Taung Gyi Township NLD. Some other interested people also attended the meeting.
The team explained positions and activities of NLD and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and discussed
the current issues and problems facing local people.
06 October
NLD leaders’ trip to Pegu Division
NLD team led by U Nyunt Wai, a CEC member composing U Han Thar Myint, U Soe Win, Ko
Aung Soe, Ma Phyu Phyu Thin and Ko Kyaw Win met with members of NLD and supporters in
Pyay. They explained NLD positions of NLD towards elections especially boycotting it to NLD
members and interested people. The next day they continued their trip to Nattlin Township and
met with NLD members.
08 October
NLD team continues the trip to Kayah State
NLD team stretched out its trip to Kayah State and met with leaders and members of NLD at
Loikaw and explained the current strategies and activities of NLD regarding the elections. Due to
tight security, they had to sleep a night at the Bus station. No guest house, even the monastery
did not allow them to stay overnight.
The team continued the trip the next day and arrived at Nyaungshwe Township. They met with
NLD members including organizational committee members at the house of Dr. Tun Hlaing, an
MP elect in Inle Lake. They visited veteran politicians in Taung Gyi including U San Aung and
U Khun Htee who used to be involved in independence movement. The team arrived back
Rangoon on 11th October.
09 October
NLD leaders’ trip to Mon and Karen State
NLD team composing U Nyan Win, U Nai Nai, Daw Khin Htay Kywe, Daw Khin Saw Htay and
Ko Aye Tun from youth branch made a trip to Mon and Karen State to discuss present situation
and NLD’s positions especially boycotting elections. They explained legal points regarding 2008
Constitution and elections. Interested people in addition to NLD members attended the meetings
throughout the trip.
10 October
U Tin Oo paid respect by Burmese in Singapore
Burmese people living in Singapore paid respect to U Tin Oo, vice chairman of NLD in a
monastery of Singapore before he went back to Burma after an eye operation.
NLD members in Zigon started boycott campaign

NLD members in Zigon Township wearing T shirt with images of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U
Win Tin and U Tin Oo, and a line that said ‘People have right not to vote according to the law’.
They also distributed small photos of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U Tin Oo and U Win Tin and
explained people that people could stay at home on the day of election and it does not break any
law.
12 October
Daw Suu refused to vote
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi told to her lawyers that she would not vote in the coming elections as
the National League for Democracy did not participate in the elections. Although she is serving a
prison term, her name appears in the list of voters in Bahan Township where she lives. Her
lawyers sent a complaint letter back to the Police Special Branch that she was not supposed to
have the right to vote according to the law in response to their information that she was allowed
to vote in the elections.
Her lawyers met her to discuss about the special appeal to be submitted on 18th of this month at
the Supreme Court in Rangoon. The Court will decide whether it will accept the appeal for
hearing. She also told her lawyers that the elections to be held according to the 2008 constitution
which is in contrast to the desire of people and the results of 1990 elections will not bring about
democracy. She said so in response to comments that elections will bring some changes.
U Tin Oo back home

U Tin Oo, vice chairman of the NLD came back to Rangoon after visiting Singapore for medical
treatment. NLD leaders including U Win Tin and youth members fetched him up at the airport.
NLD leaders’ trip to Kachin State

NLD leaders such as U Ohn Kyaing, Ma Phyu Phyu Thin, Daw Hla Hla Moe, Daw Aye Aye
Mar, Ko Myo Nyunt and U Aye Thar Aung, member of Committee Representing People’s
Parliament went to Mandalay as a first stop for Kachin trip. There at the house of U Thein Tan,
chairman of the Mandalay Division NLD, they met with members of NLD from eleven
Townships in Mandalay such as Mogote, Sintgu, Madaya, Thabeikkyin, Patheingyi, Tada-U,
Amarapura, Sintgaing and Pyinoolwin and discussed about several issues including activities and
attitudes towards coming elections.
13 October
NLD leaders attended ALD ceremony
Central Executive Committee members including U Win Tin attended the 22nd anniversary of the
foundation of Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) which won 11 seats in 1990 elections. ALD
has been a firm alliance of NLD for long years.
14 October
NLD still exist
NLD released a statement for its branches informing that the NLD still exist legally. In the
statement, it said, ‘The NLD filed a lawsuit on its dissolution according to the Political Party
Registration Law (No. 2/2010) at the Supreme Court with the Case Number 63/2010 of General
Civil Lawsuit and it has been waiting for hearing of the Court. The NLD, hence, has not yet been
dissolved under the session 25 of the Political Party Registration Law (No. 2/2010)’.
NLD leaders visit families of political prisoners

NLD team led by U Nai Nai visits families of political prisoners in Hlegu and Mingaladon
Townships in suburb of Rangoon Division. They also meet with NLD members and supporters
in respective Townships.
14 October
NLD leaders’ trip to Kachin State
NLD team led by U Ohn Kyaing and U Aye Thar Aung arrived at Monyin and meet with NLD
members and supporters and explain NLD positions and voters’ right regarding elections.
15 October
Trip to Kachin continues
NLD team continues their trip to Myitkyina, Kachin State and met with members from
Myitkyina, Bhamo, Waingmaw, Mogaung Townships. NLD leaders especially explained NLD’s
platforms towards the genuine federal union and expressed willingness to cooperate with ethnic
nationalities.
The next day they went to Namtee and met with NLD members. When they arrived back to
Myitkyina, they visited the prison where Zargana, a well-known comedian and other political
prisoners were detained and sent them food, some stuffs and money. They also met with veteran
politicians in Myitkyina such as U Byit Tu and family of U Myit Htoo.
NLD leaders’ Irrawaddy trip

NLD team led by U Kyi Win, MP elect met with members from Labutta Township and discussed
about current situation and activities regarding elections.
15 October
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi meets her lawyers
U Nyan Win and U Kyi Win meet Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at her residence for the second time
in this month to discuss about special appeal to be submitted on 18th October. During the
meeting, she said that she could not accept the idea that the election organized by the SPDC is
the only way to bring about democracy in Burma. She argued that the junta held an election in
1990 and did not recognize the results. Now again, they are going to hold the elections and will
recognize it only when the results they prefer come out. And the government doesn’t need to be
accountable to the parliament.
Regarding the wait and see policy of some countries on elections, she said that she didn’t believe
that their policies have changed but they just want to see the outcomes of the elections. She told
her lawyers that she wants to use ‘twitter’ when she is released to keep in touch with young
people inside or outside of the country.
17 October
NLD leaders’ trip to Chin State
NLD team composing Monywa Aung Shin, Pyapon Nilone Oo and Ko Ba Maung from youth
wing started a trip as the second round to Chin State. This time, the team would go to the rest of
the Townships they could not visit the last time.
NLD leaders attended one month ritual ceremony of the demise of U Ohn Myint
NLD leaders paid a visit to the house of U Ohn Myint who passed away a month ago. A ritual
ceremony for his demise is held for his merit.
18 October
NLD members harassed
U Aung Myint, chairman of NLD Thayawaddy Township in Pegu Division was harassed by
policemen at his house by interrogating and threatening. In Tharyawaddy, authorities in
Township level are forcing local authorities to persuade people in villages to vote in the
elections.
Lawyers of Daw Suu present special appeal to the Court

Lawyers representing Daw Aung San Suu Kyi were allowed to present their arguments at the
Supreme Court for special appeal over her house arrest.
Two NLD members released from jail

U Chit Pe, vice chairman of Twante Township NLD and Ko Aung Soe Wai, an organizer of
NLD were released after serving full term of sentence from Shwe Bo prison and Pyay prison
respectively. They were arrested and sentenced one and half year each for praying at a pagoda
for release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and political prisoners.
NLD leaders’ return trip from Kachin State

NLD team led by U Ohn Kyaing and U Aye Thar Aung, on their return to Rangoon, stopped at
Kyaukpadaung Township in Mandalay Division and met with NLD members from
Kyaukpadaung, Meikhtilar and Nyaung-U townships, at the house of U Myint Lwin. They
discussed about several matters including ethnic issues and answered questions raised by
attendees. In Kyaukpadaung, NLD members have been distributing photos of Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi with her words ‘People have right to vote as well as they have right not to vote’.
NLD leaders’ trip to Irrrawaddy Division

NLD team composing U Kyi Win, U Kyaw Myint, Manh Nyunt Thein and Manh Georgney
started next round of trip to Irrawaddy Division to reach more Townships before the end of this
month. They would visit Townships in the lower part of Irrawaddy Division to meet with NLD
members and supporters.
18 October
Diplomats from Canada Embassy meet NLD leaders
Some diplomats from Canada Embassy came and met with U Tin Oo and U Win Tin at U Tin
Oo’s house to enquire NLD’s present situation and positions.
19 October
Australian Ambassador meets NLD leaders
Ambassador and diplomats from Australian Embassy meet with U Tin Oo and U Nai Nai at U
Tin Oo’s house and discussed about NLD’s positions and current issues.
25 October
German Ambassador meets U Tin Oo and CEC members
Diplomats from German Embassy led by Mr. Julius Georg Luy, Ambassador come to the house
of U Tin Oo, Vice Chairman of NLD and meet with some CEC members. The Ambassador
inquired about future works of NLD and situation of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. U Win Tin, U Ohn
Kyaing and U Han Thar Myint also joined the meeting.
21 October
NLD leaders visited political prisoners
NLD team led by U Nai Nai and U Win Myint together with U Hla Thein, U Khin Maung Shein
and Daw Khin Saw Mu from women wing, Ko Myint Htay from youth wing visited families of
political prisoners in North Okkalapa. The team also met with members of North Okkalapa
Township NLD and discussed about current situation.
The Supreme Court accepted Daw Suu’s special appeal

The Supreme Court announced that it would hear the special appeal submitted by Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi over her house arrest. Her lawyers will have to present their argument before the Special
Appellate Bench in Naypyidaw on 29th October.
22 October
NLD leaders visit political prisoners in Kyauktan and Thanlyan
NLD leaders such as U Win Myint, Daw May Win Myint, U Khin Maung Shein, U Myo Aung
and Ko Myo Nyunt from youth wing visit families of political prisoners in Kyauktan Township.
Then they meet with NLD members and discussed about boycotting elections.
They continued their trip to Thanlyan Township and meet with families of political prisoners and
NLD members. NLD youth members distributed pamphlets for boycotting elections in Kyauk
Tan and Thanlyan markets.
23 October
NLD members distributed educational pamphlets about elections
NLD members from Myeik Township distributed thousands of educational pamphlets about
electoral laws informing people that they have right not to voter just as they have right to voter
according to the law. In the evening, NLD members including members from youth and women
wing wearing T shirts with words expressing that people have right not to vote according to the
law went to the pagodas in city and pray for the release of political prisoners including Daw
Aung San Suu Kyi.
24 October
NLD leaders attended the ceremony marking 22nd anniversary of ZNC
NLD leaders who are travelling to Chin State attend the ceremony marking the 22nd anniversary
of the establishment of Zomi National Congress. In the ceremony, ethnic leaders and non-ethnic
leaders signed an agreement called ‘Kalay Declaration’ in which they express the necessity of a
national conference like a Panglong conference that will lay down foundation for future Federal
Union. The declaration turns down the 2008 Constitution and the upcoming election as they will
not bring about any change for people.
The ZNC honored the award of ‘National Reconciliation Hero’ to U Win Tin for this year.
NLD team led by Monywar Aung Shin and U Aung Thein also meet with NLD members at the
house of Dr. Thein Win, MP elect of Kalay constituency in Kalay Township and discuss about
laws and people’s rights regarding elections and how to exercise their rights.
24 October
NLD members paid respect to senior leaders
At the Headquarters of NLD, members paid respect to NLD’s senior leaders at the end of the lent
according to Burmese tradition.
25 October
NLD CEC meets
Central Executive Committee members of NLD meet and discuss mainly about boycott activities
and how to inform NLD’s decision and positions to people and voters. CEC members also
briefly discuss about current activities and its challenges.
26 October
NLD youth members distribute ‘boycott pamphlets’
NLD youth members wearing T shirt with words expressing ‘People have right not to vote
according to the law’ distribute pamphlets urging people not to vote in the elections. They
distribute pamphlets in Htauk Kyant market in Mingalardon Township and Phauk Kan market in
Insein Township. They have been watched by local authorities but not harassed.
26 October
NLD released two statements
NLD issued two statements one of which is calling for boycotting the upcoming elections and
another one is about its positions towards National Democratic Force, a splinter group of NLD.
In the first statement, it said voters have rights not to vote in the elections according to electoral
laws. And if someone forces people to vote, he or she can make complaints at police stations.
It also describes Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s messages on elections such as; “Citizens of the
country have the right to vote just as the right not to vote according to the law” “It is against the
law if someone is forced to vote” and “If you don’t like parties in the absence of NLD, you can
stay at home (without voting)”
NLD leaders’ trip to Sagaing Division

NLD team led by Monywar Aung Shin and U Aung Thein meet with NLD members in Sagaing
Division and discussed about electoral rights of voters and how to monitor elections. They also
discussed about people’s right not to vote and to complain if forced to vote.
27 October
NLD leaders visit families of political prisoners
NLD team composing U Nai Nai, U Myo Aung and U Khin Maung Shein visit family members
of political prisoners in South Okkalapa Township and explain NLD’s activities and positions
toward elections. They also provide some assistance to family members as a token of
encouragement.
The team continues to South Dagon to meet with NLD members. The meeting took about two
hours to discuss about current situation and activities of NLD members. Meanwhile, NLD youth
members distribute pamphlets urging people to exercise their right not to vote in elections in
Thingangyun Township, South Okkalapa Township and South Dagon Township.
29 October
Daw Suu’s appeal heard
U Nyan Win, Daw Khin Htay Kywe and U Kyi Win present the Special Appeal before the
Special Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court in Naypyidaw. The hearing took about three
hours in a three member panel composing Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Deputy Chief Justice U
Tun Tun Oo and Justice U Kyaw Win. The Court was adjourned to another date for the next
hearing which has not yet been fixed.
U Han Thar Myint, U Win Myint, U Thein Oo, Daw May Win Myint, Daw Aye Aye Mar, Daw
Khin Saw Mu, Dr. Myo Aung, U Khin Maung Shein, U Saw Nai Nai from NLD, Ko Myo
Nyunt, Daw Myint Myint Aye, Ma Thuza Lwin and Ma Min Maw Oo from NLD youth wing
also attended the trial.
NLD leaders’ trip to Eastern Shan State

NLD team led by U Ohn Kyaing and U Aye Thar Aung from Committee Representing People’s
Parliament meet with members from Namsan Township and discuss about several issues
including boycotting elections and CRPP’s decisions toward elections. They also discuss about
Kalay Declaration and its plan to hold second Pang Long conference.
NLD team continues to Tachilek Township and meets with NLD members and explains current
issues and positions regarding elections as discussed in the previous Townships. On 30th,
October, they arrived Kengteng and explained NLD members Kalay Declaration and NLD’s
positions toward elections. They also meet with some ethnic leaders from Shan Nationalities
League for Democracy led by Khun Htun Oo.
30 October
NLD youth members distribute ‘boycott’ pamphlets
NLD youth members form Rangoon Division youth wing distribute pamphlets urging people to
exercise their rights not to vote in the elections, in markets and some public places in Tamwe
Township.
31 October
NLD members’ boycott campaigns
NLD members who distribute pamphlets urging people not to vote in South Dagon Township
were harassed by local policemen. Later, they were allowed to walk around in a group no more
than three people. NLD members also distribute pamphlets in Kyemyindaing and Dala
Townships in Rangoon Division and some townships in Pegu and Tanintharyi Division.
Japanese Foreign Minister urged the junta to release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
Mr. Seiji Maehara, Japanese Foreign Minister urged U Nyan Win, the junta’s Foreign Minister
during talks on the sidelines of regional meetings with ASEAN and its dialogue partners.
But U Nyan Win did not respond to his call to release her.
