What is Hurricane?
• A hurricane is a severe cyclone
• Originated from “ Huracan”
• It is larger and stronger than Typhoon and Tropical Cyclones
• Maximum sustained winds exceeding 300km/hr
• Most activity is usually seen in early June to October
• Occurs in the western Atlantic ocean, the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, or
the eastern Pacific ocean.
• It forms and intensifies over tropical oceanic regions .
• When the hurricane occurs, rain and thunderstorm occurs.

How is the Hurricane formed?

• During the summer, Sun’s rays strike most directly to the ocean.
• Fed by the convection currents
• Near the equator the air above the ocean is warm, so it rises.
• Reach higher altitudes, water vapour condenses, heat is released which cause air
rising.
• Rising air turns to right to rotate counterclockwise.
• This air flows out over the storm, descending turning to right.
