TCM modeling in Icepak

By
Nikhil R Lakhkar
Model

•There is a fine gap of 1mil =

Hat 0.025mm in between cylinder and
piston.
Gap
•The gap is filled with air.
• Wattage for source = 1W

Materials:
Cylinder: Copper
Hat: Copper
Piston: Copper
Model - Parameters
• A variable $y is defined as the Y centre of piston
and source.
• $Y is varied in such a way that the gap between
piston and hat is increased from 2mm to 8mm.
• There is a gap between hat and top of domain
which is at 20oC.
• This is a conduction only problem so the flow is
turned off.
• Optimization is not running don’t know why!!
Optimization is not running don’t know why!!
For $y= 5, engagement length=9mm

Gradient = 1.87oC
For $y= 4, engagement length=8mm

Gradient = 2.04oC
For $y= 3, engagement length=7mm

Gradient = 2.21oC
Conclusion

• As the engagement length reduces

maximum temperature increases.
