UNIT OUTLINE - Systems of linear inequalities

Essential Question:
How can inequalities help make smart choices?

Big Ideas:
Linear inequalities can be written in words, in a symbolic sentence or in a graph.

Linear inequalities are used to analyze change in various contexts and model real-world
phenomena.

The solutions to systems of inequalities can be found represented graphically.

Skills:
By the end of this unit, you should be able to do these skills:

 Understand the relationship between a linear equation and a linear inequality.

 Understand the graphical nature of a linear inequalities, i.e., establishing an area
 Understand the graphical nature of a system of linear inequalities, i.e., establishing an
area
 Graph a system of linear inequalities
 Solve a system of linear inequalities algebraically
 Solve a system of linear inequalities graphically on paper
 Solve a system of linear inequalities graphically using a graphing calculator
 Interpret the solution of a system of linear inequalities

Terminology
By the end of this unit, you should be able to explain these terms:

 System of linear inequalities

 Area of solution
 Sample solution
