    Planning for Poetry—Poem Title: _____________________________


    Objective: Justify the choices you’ve made as a poet in your form, voice, based on your audience and
    purpose.
    Directions: Respond to the following questions for EACH of your poems. Make sure your responses are
    specific. Staple this sheet to the poem/poems.

    1. Focus/Unity: What dominant impression are you trying to express through your poetry?

    2. Development/Support: Explain 3 specific poetic techniques you used to develop/support your


    dominant impression.

    3. Organization: Explain, in detail, the form of poetry you’ve used and how that form supports
    your dominant impression. How many stanzas did you use? How many lines? How does the
    poem look on the page? Explain any choices you made in line breaks, poetic devices, rhythm,
    etc. Use references to your poem to explain your choices.

    4. Style/Word Choice: Choose 3 specific words or phrases you used to supported your dominant
    impression. Look for unique vocabulary or figurative language. Find examples that you have
    not yet explained; you should have many to choose from.
