Last summer, my family visited South Korea and visited multiple museums either
dedicated to or had exhibits that featured the Korean War and its aftermath. This
inspired me to research a bit more on the war. During my research, I found out that
there was no formal end to the war, and knowing how the Koreas still maintain a
fragile relationship with each other to this day, I felt that this topic would fit well
into this years’ theme. At first I wanted to cover the entire Korean War, but I soon

When I first thought up the project, I researched at my school library and found two
extremely helpful books on the Korean War. I also used their online EBSCOhost
Library system, I also used the Joseph F. Smith Library at BYUH to find books.
Finally, I used JStor to find additional primary articles. I took notes on all of these
Last year, I created a website for my history day project. I enjoyed and had fun in
the experience, and decided that I would like to construct another site one this year.
my 500-word essay. I then found pictures that pertained to each of my three points
My project relates to this years’ theme in several ways. The process of creating the
cease-fire armistice was not only diplomacy between the Communists and the U.N.,
but also resulted in both failures and successes. Many of the failures and successes
resulted in long-term consequences that remain present even until today. If the
armistice was not signed it could have resulted in a greater consequence, such as the
war continuing on for another five or ten years. The newly created United Nations
could have been defeated and deemed useless among other nations. North Korea
could have been overthrown and the two nations could have been united as one.
The cease-fire armistice was indeed a great diplomacy that changed the Koreas
forever.
