Approach
 All the topics will be split into 5 groups:
1) Depression and its solutions: Pre-Depression, Depression, ISI
and Populism
2) Economic Transition: Export-Import to ISI to Chicago Boys
3) Political Transition: Cooperative to Social Democracy to
Bureaucratic-Authoritarianism (BA)
4) External Influence: US Foreign Policy, School of Americas, US-
Cuba
5) Debt Crisis and its economic consequences: Post-Chicago
Boys (CIEPLAN etc)

 Note: The political consequence of the Debt Crisis is the 3rd wave
democratisation, which is the start of Section 3.
Approach (cont.)
 1) Background brief: In powerpoint format
or word version, will be at the blog. It gives all
the information for the tutorial to make sense
at all.

 2) Tutorial: Putting all the background


information into coherent whole, explore
articles’ argument, exam practice on and
discussion question, and answer any related
questions
