Cellular Division

By: Clark Saul

Mitosis- Basic Cell Parts
Cell Membrane- controls what comes in and out of the
cell.
Nucleus- “control center”, contains DNA
Centrioles- are in the cytoplasm only to aid in cellular
division.
Microtubules- miniature tubes that act as the skeleton
for the cell, they attach to chromosomes to move them
around.
The Purpose of Mitosis
As humans grow from a baby to an adult our cells
must divide and multiply in order to increase surface
area.
Growth and repair.
Stages of Mitosis
Prophase- Chromosomes condense and blue strands
extend outward (composed of micro tubules) and
attach to the centromeres.
Metaphase- the chromosomes are pulled by the
microtubules to the center of the cell.
Anaphase- the sister chromatids of the chromosomes
are pulled apart to opposite poles, and are duplicated.
Telophase- the chromosomes uncoil and two nuclear
envelopes develop around the new duplicated
chromosomes.
