• Started as the Tata Hydroelectric Power Supply Company in 1911

Tata Chemical
• Tata Chemicals has the second largest soda ash production capacity
plant in India
• This was the second soda ash plant built in India started operating
in the year 1944
• On March 27, 2008, Tata Chemicals Ltd acquired 100 per cent stake
in US-based General Chemical Industrial Products Inc (GCIP) for
$1.05 billion (around Rs 4,000 crore)
• It is world’s second largest maker of soda ash.
• Net sales at Rs8,402 crore; up by 16 per cent (9M FY 11)
• Profit from operations at Rs1,047 crore (FY 11)
Tata Hotel
• The Company was incorporated in 1902
• It opened its first hotel, The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Mumbai, in
1903.
• In 1980, the Taj Group took its first step internationally by opening
its first hotel outside India, the Taj Sheba Hotel in Sana'a, Yemen
• The Company relaunched its flag ship property as the Taj Mahal
Palace & Tower in 2003.
• Hotels operated by the Taj Group internationally are located in US,
Australia, Dubai, Maldives, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom,
Yemen and Zambia.
• Profits of FY 2010 – 195.78 crores
Tata Communication
• It was found as VSNL (Videsh Sanchaar Nigam Limited) in 1986
• On 13 February 2008 VSNL, formerly owned by the government,
was taken over by the Tata Group and renamed Tata
Communications Ltd.
• Tata Communications is a leading global provider of a new world of
communications. With a leadership position in emerging markets
• The Tata Global Network includes one of the most advanced and
largest submarine cable networks
• Investments in operators in South Africa (Neotel), Sri Lanka (Tata
Communications Lanka Limited), Nepal (United Telecom Limited).
• Profits for year 2010 – (-538.80 crore)
