Steel does not behave well under fire conditions. Steel temperature range of 250 to 400 C and continues to decrease until the steel temperature reaches 500 C when it has lost most of its strength. Most Structural Steelwork will need protective to give it a specific degree of fire resistance in terms of time. Objectives of Fire Protection to ensure the temperature (during fire) of structural members do not increase.

Steel; does not behave well under fire conditions During the initial stages of fire the steel temperature range of 250 to 400 C and continues to decrease until the steel temperature reaches 500 C when it has lost most of its strength. Since the temperature rise during a fire is rapid, most structural steelwork will need protective to give it a specific degree of fire resistance in terms of time.
Objectives of fire protection
To ensure the temperature (during fire) of structural members do not increase. Allow sufficient delay to the spread of fire hence would give time for people to evacuate or enabling fire fighting to be commenced.
