1. Why is a schedule is an important tool for the project managers?

a. It facilitates monitor and control of project activities.


b. It helps in the planning of time estimates.
c. It assists in the planning of resource estimates.
d. It enables effective estimation of cost.
e. It illustrates inter-dependencies between project activities.

2. Who owns the float, and why?

This depends upon particular situation: For example, the contractor will own the
float because he/she has developed the schedule as long as contract has
stipulations regarding delay in schedule from the project owner/sponsor. In other
cases, for example, when the project owner covers late penalties, he/she owns
the float.

3. How do you set the completion date for a project? List five ways.

From the perspective of project owner:

• Based on the date when the project needs to be completed.


• Based on Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
• Based on historical information of similar past projects.

From the perspective of contractor:

• By taking into consideration availability of resources (both material and


human).This criteria will incorporate dependencies on other ongoing projects
in the organization.
• By considering procurement. For example, delivery of key equipments will
have a bearing on the completion date.
