Trapped!

My most fearful moment was when I thought I was locked in a school bathroom. It was
frightening to me because I was little and it was a school I wasn’t used to. I didn’t know my way
around. That’s probably why I thought I was locked in the restroom.

It was a Monday at the Lomond View Elementary School. Parent Teacher Conferences
were going on. My sister, Jae, was in 2nd grade and was done with her Parent Teacher
Conferences. She wanted to go to the book fair that was going on in the gym. I wanted to go
too. I didn’t know my way around the school because I was still in preschool.

Like any other preschooler, I held it too long so I needed to go. I got Jae to show me
where the restroom was. At Lomond View the restrooms are at the front of the school. They’re
unusual restrooms be cause they have a handicap stall and showers behind a door that looks
the exactly the same as the door to come in and to go out. I went in and made my transaction,
washed my hands as well as a preschooler can, and went to open the door it wouldn’t open.

I pulled hard, harder, and the hardest I could and it wouldn’t open. I tried pushing
instead of pulling and it didn’t work either. Like any other preschooler I remembered every little
thing except which door I came in. I remembered pushing the door I came in so I tried pulling
again and it didn’t work again. I tried putting my feet up against the wall and pulled it didn’t
work. So I started to feel really scared just like all preschooler do when they think they’re
trapped.

I thought I hadn’t pulled hard enough so I yanked that didn’t work. Then I jerked the
door that didn’t work either. I gave it one last mighty heave. No matter how hard I tried I could
not extricate myself from the bathroom. It seemed the door was immoveable. I was locked in. I
gave up in despair. Hoping someone would come to my rescue. I sat and waited. The fear grew
and seemed to consume me.

About this time my sister was wondering where I was. She thought I had fallen in. She
came and knocked I looked over there was another door. Maybe that was the door out. So I ran
to it and pushed. It had been awhile so I forgot that I pushed to come in. so I pulled, it opened.
My sister had recued me with a knock.

That was my most apprehensive moment. I was locked in the restroom or so I thought.
In a school I wasn’t used to. Where I didn’t know my way around.
