PEEL
Age is represented in the extract through
camera shots. For example, the use of a close
up shot on the character of Amy connotes that
she is emotional and vulnerable by showing the
audience her facial expressions. This shot type
reinforces the stereotype that teenagers are
volatile and act out on their emotions. This
representation is reinforced when we see the
same character in a low angle shot when
arguing with an older character, she in defying
his instruction, as a typical teenage might do.
PEEL
Age is represented in the extract through camera shots.
For example, the use of a close up shot on the character
of Amy connotes that she is emotional and vulnerable by
showing the audience her facial expressions. This shot
type reinforces the stereotype that teenagers are volatile
and act out on their emotions. This representation is
reinforced when we see the same character in a low
angle shot arguing with an adult character defying his
instruction, as a typical teenage might do, and she
appears overpowered and weak. This representation of
teenagers might appeal to younger audiences who can
identify with the character of Amy, however it is
stereotypical and does represent young people as
vulnerable and powerless in society, which might also
negatively represent the age group to older audiences.
