TECHNICAL SEMINAR ON

FRICTION STIR WELDING

SYNOPSIS

Friction stir welding ( FSW ) is a solid state welding process in which a machine with
tool rotates , plunges and then transverse these tool along a joint which is to be welded .
the rotation action and specific geometry of fsw tool generates friction and mechanical
working of materials which in turn generates large amount of heat just sufficient to melt
the metal and the rotating action action of the tool transfer the material from one side of
the joint line to other which is to be joined .
The process has numerous advantages over other welding technic and it can be also
used to weld numerous materials like aluminium , bronze , copper , titanium, steel ,
magnesium , plastic etc…
