Dillan Destroys

Instructions: Read the new story for this lesson and then answer the questions below correctly
according to the story.

The Overlords have been banging away at the plain white door. (1) Dillan has been trying to get over the
shock of realizing that their hideout was discovered. Dillan steps through the door and aims two large
shotguns at the Overlords. They have been snickering at him while he screams at them.

(2) “You can’t do anything to us, Dillan!” they said.

Diane has come running through the door as she charges at the Overlords. (3) But they easily grab her in
mid-air and toss her over the edge of the building. Dillan screams and falls to his knees sobbing.

Meanwhile, Brody and Dunk held Podik hostage. (4) “You will pay for this betrayal, Podik. Don’t you
worry.”

(5) Dillan can see that the Overlords have been detonating bombs in The Game of Life as the world
crumbles around them. Innocent bystanders have been wailing and running for safety as skyscrapers fall
around them. It is pure destruction that only the Overlords could pull off.

But even though most of the Game of Life is destroyed and Diane is dead, (6) Dillan manages to summon
up the powers that Diane has been talking about. He doesn’t know how to explain it, but he finds that
he has been slowing down time. Dillan’s adrenaline surges. (7) “So, this was what she has been talking
about.”

Dillan speeds time back to normal while he has been aiming at the main Overlord who cloned himself to
create the huge army behind him. “I’ll destroy you to destroy this chaos!” Dillan screamed loudly.

(8) “Try it!” the Overloard yells back at him.

Dillan smiles wryly as he pulls the trigger. He slows down time and lets the bullet take its sweet time
traveling to the Overlord’s head. The Overlord has been screaming in disbelief as the bullet covers the
distance between them. Then, Dillan speeds the bullet back up.

The rebel team sees that the army behind the Overlord has been collapsing and dissipating as the bullet
is absorbed into the Overlord’s programming. (9) The Game of Life has been evaporating around them
as they help free everyone that was trapped there.

Dillan takes one last look below and is amazed to discover that Diane has been hanging on to a window
sill just below the portal. (10) He screams with joy as he helps her get to safety. They make it through
the portal just before the Game of Life disappears with Podick and the Overlords.
