War & Peace Podcast Guidelines

Each student will choose one war from American history about which to research and
record an audio podcast. The question from our syllabus is the focus of the assignment:
Which American war has most defined American identity, society and politics? In
order to answer that question effectively, you will need to research your war and craft a
strong, thesis-driven argument about why the war you chose was the most essential and
formative for American identity, society, & politics.

This assignment is worth 80 points (see attached rubric). Your podcasts (2:30-4 minutes
long) and Works Cited (of all sources you referenced) are due at the end of class on
Thursday, April 28th.

After all the podcasts are posted, you will then need to listen to three of your classmates’
podcasts (one from each of the wars that you did not choose) and write a short (one
paragraph) comment on each. You should use these comments to point out good points
that the podcaster made, but also perhaps to point out things that you disagree with,
issues they didn’t mention, etc… Your comments are due at the end of class on Friday,
April 29th.

You will be using either Audacity (PC) or Garageband (Mac) to record your podcast, and
will upload it, along with a Works Cited, to the class Google Site. You will receive
directions as to how to embed and post your projects.
