Replacing Discovery 1 PS Pump With

A1-Cardone Rebuilt PN 20-874

This is just to publish a tip. Additional info to come with other modifications for the conversion.

The 20-874 doesn't come with the hub for the pulley, so I pulled the one from my old pump
and pressed it on to the shaft of the new pump (it's a very tight fit). There's no stop to make
sure you get it in the exact same place, so I stopped a little short of where it should be, then
did the fine adjustment after the pump was installed.

The shaft is threaded, once you get past the hex opening, so I cobbed together a press and
used a wrench to press it home.
You can use special tools for this, but if you don't have them....

This is what I did:

• Attach the pulley with two of the stock bolts then thread in an 8mm x 1.25 to give a
place to insert a pry bar to keep the pump shaft from rotating.

• Place some flat washers over a 3/8-16 x 3” cap screw, fit about a 15mm socket over it,
then a couple more flat washers and thread it in to the pump shaft.

• Wedge a bar between the long 8mm bolt and the socket then tighten the 3/8” bolt until
the pulley is aligned properly.
