REFLECTION -7) TYPES OF LEARNING

In this lesson we talked about types of learning. There are Gagne’s eight types
of learning.1) signal learning is about the individual’s response to a stimulus.
Signal learning is everywhere.2) stimulus-response learning is about
associations. For example a student that knows simple past can associate it with
past perfect. 3) chaning is about stimulus response connections. 4) verbal
association is about the individual’s previously learned repertoire of language.
5) multiple discrimination is about one’s making many different responses to
many different stimuli. For example “get”has multiple meaning. 6) concept
learning is about generalization. There are many different concepts in
linguistics.7) principle learning is about experience. You behave accordingly in
a way.8) problem solving is about thinking. Students solve the problem and
come up with a solution. These are about both behaviorism and cognitivism. We
also talked about transfer, interference and overgeneralization. Transfer is about
the previous performance’s transfer to subsequent learning. There are positive
and negative transfer. They are important while teaching students new
information. Overgeneralization and interference are related to each other.
Students can overgeneralize everything. For example a student can say go’s past
simple form “goed”.
