Humayun was the king of Hindustan. Sher Shah was his enemy. It was the month of August. Humayun was returning to Delhi after a battle. He had a small army with him. It was raining heavily. On the way, Sher Shah and his army attacked Humayun and his soldiers. Humayun managed to escape with a few of his officers. They had to cross the river on horseback. But Humayun’s horse tripped and he fell into the swollen river. A water carrier saw that the king was about to drown. He jumped into the river with his leather water bag. The bag was full of air and it floated on the river. He put the tired king on the water bag and saved his life. Humayun was grateful and said, ‘You have saved my life. Tell me what I can do for you.” ‘Your majesty, he said, ‘make me king for three hours.’ The next day, for three hours the water carrier became king. He sat on the throne.
