Method of Investigation: The method of investigation used for this project is in the form of a

questionnaire.
Dear Respondents,

My name is Leroy Walker. I am a fifth form student of the St Clair Dacon Secondary

School (SCDSS). The Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Social Studies syllabus requires that students

complete a School Based Assessment (S.B.A). The topic for my S.B.A is: “How unemployment affects youths

in Greiggs“.I am soliciting your assistance towards the completion of my S.B.A. Please complete the following

Task four

Collection of data procedure

To gather information for this project the researcher constructed a questionnaire. The questionnaires

were distributed to twenty five youths in Greiggs. The sample consists of ten males and fifteen

females, between the age group of eighteen to thirty five. The sample was selected using the simple

random sampling by placing the names of sixty names of youths in my community in a bag. The bag

was shaken and the first twenty five names selected were given a questionnaire to complete. The

questionnaires were distributed on 17th November

Explanation of data

Figure one is a bar graph showing the response of the youths as to the level of education they

achieved . Of the three levels of education it was seen that majority of the respondents atained a

secondary education, followed by an tertiary education and the minority attained a primary

education.

figure two is a bar graph illstrating why the youth in Greiggs is not unemployed. from the bar
graph a plurality of youth were looking for a specific job and the minority were awaiting results
from exams

Figure three is a column illustrating how the basic needs of youths are met due to their
unemployment. It was noticed that a great majority of persons meet their basic needs via family and
loved ones, eighty percent of them to be precise. five percent of youths continue to exist by means
of their friends and a reduced amount of five percent survive by doing illegal activities. Ten percent

The age group of persons in lauders varies. The first question asked for the age group of the

respondents. It was noticed that forty percent, bulk of the participants were within the age range of

fifteen (through/to) twenty years of age. Twenty five percent of respondents is within the age range
of twenty one (through/to) twenty five years of age. Twenty percent of the participants are within the

age group of twenty six through thirty and the minority within the ages of thirty one through thirty

five. From this it can be said that most of the respondents chosen by using the random sampling

method where youths within the age gropus of fifteen through twenty years of age.

Question two on my questionnaire asked the respondent what level of education they have complete.
A vast number of the participants attained form 3-5 education (60 %), followed by grade 4-6
education (20%), then form 1-2 education (16%) and minority attaining grade1-3 education (4%).
From the information mentioned above it can be said that majority of the youths in Greiggs are well
educated

majority of respondent say yes (72%) that they had worked before and minority have say no (28%)
that they never worked before

the respondent had been without a job for 1 year and under (48%) , 2 - 4 years (35%) and 5 years and more(20%)

unemployment cause quarrel in the home, (28%) respondent say yes and (72%) respondent say No

majority have say no (84%) they have never been arrested for unlawful offence and minority of
respondent say yes (16%) they have been arrested for unlawful offence

(56%) of the respondent say yes that they have child or children and (44%) say no that they don't have child or children
